SUMo: Free Software Update Manager

SUMoI can’t remember the name of the service, but one of my favourite apps in the past was an update manager that CNET used to offer back in 1998 when I first started using the internet. I think CNET removed the app as they had concerns that they might be inadvertently encouraging users to upgrade to buggy and untried apps.

If like me you really don’t care about bugs and just want all the latest ’stuff’, then SUMo will probably be right down your alley. SUMo aka Software Update Monitor, will automatically check for new versions of the programs that you have on your machine. If a newer version is available it will tell you automatically. Unlike built-in auto update features, SUMo tells you if updates are available before you need to use your software.

Thanks to Tony from www.onetipaday.com for another great tip. BTW, he’s yet another user of my old TypoXP WordPress theme ;-)

This kind of thing is always good to hear and be reminded about. I was going through some old posts on Bloglyne.com that I posted a while back and found some pretty useful stuff the other day…
