End World Hunger With Vocabulary Games
This morning, I logged into my favorite vocabulary building site. The main screen greeted me thus:
imperfection means:
Of course I clicked number five. It wasn’t a tough word after all. Now, beyond the ego-massage that radiated from getting the right answer, I felt a truly sizzling glow that warmed the cockles of my heart. You see, Free Rice donates 20 grains of rice for every word that you select correctly. Imagine that. I just fed a starving kid!
I knew this because the frontpage carried the following simple instructions:
- Click on the answer that best defines the word.
- If you get it right, you get a harder word. If wrong, you get an easier word.
- For each word you get right, we donate 20 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program.
Very charitable, isn’t it? Free Rice’s benevolent advertisers pay for the rice and the UN World Food Program distributes the rice. The site currently donated over 15 billion grains of rice. Sounds big, but remember there are a few million grains of rice in just a few 1kg sacks.
If you’re just surfing this article, do something heartwarming. Visit Free Rice and feed some people!
