GoldMail’s Overly Loud Mouth
Quick. What’s the internet’s killer app? Social networking? Beep! Wrong. Despite the flurry of Web 2.0 and other shiny net gadgets, email still dominates as the most used web application. I’ve tried the pedestrian Outlook Express with it’s no frills mail management system. Nothing can get more hohum than that. On the other end of the spectrum, there’s Incredimail with it’s outrageous icons and formatting abilities. Fancy sending notes that looks like a Hallmark card? Incredimail can do it in 2 seconds!
And now- there’s GoldMail, a tool that only pushy salespeople would love.
Goldmail is loud mouthed. Imagine an email client that pours it on thick with the voice and pictures. If you live in a hospital zone, don’t bother with Goldmail. This app transmutes email messages into a narrated slideshow that quite brings to mind Vegas musicals.
Download the 11.4 MB application at the homesite and set it up on your XP/Vista system. It’s a cinch to configure and you can throw in photos, screenshots and even PPT slides into a single note. But don’t forget the voice! You must record a voiceover to explain the images while you play a preselected soundtrack in the background. Whew. It’s no app to use with your paramour while the spouse is next room.
To create a quick note in Goldmail, first you snag some pix, either from your hard disk, by taking screen grabs (easy with Vista Sniper), or by whipping up text slides in Goldmail. It’s then a matter of sorting the images into the order you want and pressing Record . Remember that while you’re talking you can click the “next slide” button to advance the show. Goldmail always records the transition points to make the editing a breeze. It’s one easy authoring tool that requires less than 10 minutes to master.
Now’s the fun part. With your presentation, you enjoy the option to email it, hyperlink to it, or embed it in blogs and websites. How about that- a multifunction email/blogging tool.
I spet an hour tinkering and it seems to me that Goldmail works best for salesfolks who need high impact images to ram their message across. For regular Joes and discreet fellas, the software can be a tad over the top. Check it out and let me know what you think.
