AntiLeech WordPress Plugin: Stop RSS Splogs In Their Tracks
There are so many plugins for WordPress, that it’s rare that a new one comes along that I think all WordPress users should install. However I’ve just discovered a new plugin that will help me sleep better at night.
AntiLeech is a WordPress plugin that stops Splogs, i.e. feed scrappers that steal other blogs traffic, in their tracks. It doesn’t do this in a pointless manner like other similar plugins by inserting a copyright notice. What it does is replace your content with useless gibberish, and if you opt to, a link back to your own site!
Despite significantly improving my spam protection over the last couple of weeks, my content is still being stolen. I just love the idea that AntiLeech is messing up the pages of the feedscrappers. There’s even an option to try and remove Adsense iframes from the remote pages. I’m not sure how legal this is, so I’ve turned this option off.
I discovered AntiLeech via Quick Online Tips. Take a look at this page that this thief http://info2u.890m.com/1/?p=2322 that they thwarted. I love how the plugin even left the Related Posts back to QOT, but no text of value to the thief!
Update: Please remember to check your feed is working properly if you use this. On this site it messed up my main feed and I’ve turned it off until I work out why, whereas on two other sites it worked fine

That’s excellent. It’s very frustrating to see your work pop up all over the web and diluting your efforts. This one I must plugin.

@Tiernan
It doesn’t impact normal feeds.
Update: Lol Tiernan - you are right. Just turned it off until I figure out what’s going on, as on my other sites the feed seems ok

@Everton
there must be an issue with it turned off, or somewhere its cached, because IE and FireFox are still showing the same stuff… Also, will this effect Google Reader?
Comment by Everton on 17 April 2008:
@Tiernan
Thanks for that. I’ve ‘nuked’ the feed over at feedburner so it should resync soon

I hate the leechers. Sometimes I excited thinking someone is writing about my posts and then find out it has just been leeched!
I might give this plug in a whirl.
