Grand Theft Auto IV Has Problems - It Freezes
Blogs and forums are already aflame over Grand Theft Auto IV freezing during or after the opening cutscene. According to several rumours this happens on both Playstation3 and Xbox360, but not to every gamer.
Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed the problem and there is no fix released yet.
Most of the crashes happens on Playstation3s with 60 Gb hard drive, though several Xbox360 owners have the same problem.
The 9+ pages on the Playstation Forums recommend that Playstation3 owners delete the game data from the harddrive and then reinstall the game, but according to Rockstar support, this isn’t a guarenteed solution.
They also recommend that you run the latest firmware and have space on your harddrive.
This is probably the worst launch for Rockstar ever. The Xbox360 version of Rockstar’s Bully released last month was also severely bugged. I wonder how the GTA IV reviewers and game testers could have missed this?
Did it happen to you? Or are you waiting for an update before you buy Grand Theft Auto IV? Perhaps this has scared you away from GTA IV?

I took the day off today with the intention of buying it and playing it for the whole day….until I couldn’t find anywhere stocking it, so at least I’ve avoided freezes while playing the game!

My boyfriend bought it the day it came out and he’s been complaining about the character’s slow movement - not due to lagging or game issues, but just because they made the character slower.

What the game actually like?
I really want to play it! Sadly I don’t have a console for it to freeze on!!

heyy..
i have just bought gta IV..
i am very disapointed
i waited all this time for the game to come out then this happens…a bug has ruined my ps3.
first off all,
it starts freezing,
then i quit the game and it restarts the whole system
and thirdly it stops reading the disk!
i hope that Rockstar find a solution to this!

everywhere i read i see its only happening to the 60gb ps3’s, well i have a 40gb ps3 and my roommate has an 80gb ps3 and we both have the same problems, the game worked for the first couple of hours i played it, the next day i turned it on and my game never loaded, after several attempts i finally deleted the data and reinstallted the game and it worked fine again until i turned my system off and on again then the game once again never loaded…..i tried reinstalling the game again and now the game doesnt even finish the installation….what a waste of money

well like so many others i have the same issue, i have a launch 60GB PS3 and i am playing on a 42 inch sharp aquos HDtv and i have a wireless router running for my ps3’s internet connection. now i bought the ps3 at blockbuster the day it came out and i bought GTA4 the morning after it was released at gamestop. So i load my game, it freezes after 5-10 min and thats it. my ps3 also gets a little warmer than would like so i belive its a heat issue, it could just simply be trying to do to much all at the same time or the no load time feature is messing up and overloading the cache, either way i have no gaming going on and feel like rockstar has yet again let me down.

hey this is happening on the 40Gb versions as well. Only bought the machine a week ago COD4 works fine as soon as i try to load a multiplayer game on GTA the whole system crashes. And then doesn’t load.
Comment by Nico on 12 May 2008:
Let Rockstar know by simply returning this game to where you bought it, remember the warranty is usually 90 days. That should pass the buck back on to the retailers and then back on to the programmers at Rockstar!!! I did!!!

Weird, I have not had any probs so far with the game. I have a 60GB model. I do hope they do find a solution for everyone, especially when we have to pay almost £50 for a game!!

If your Xbox console is laying flat, try standing it on end. Worked for me.
