Paypal Keeps Secrets From You

Do you make a lot of money via paypal? I do… in excess of $5000 a month from assorted e-products, physical goods and services. Because of the volume I generate, I didn’t mind the 2.9% + .30 USD charge Paypal slapped me per transaction. That’s lower than bank transfer rates.

Yesterday, I discovered something that dropped my jaw. If you earn more than 3000 a month, you can actually lower the percentage owed to paypal. Here’s what it looks like:

0 to $3000 - 2.9% + .30USD

$3001 to $10,000 - 2.5% + .30USD

$3001 to $10,000 - 2.5% + .30USD

$10,001 to $100,000 - 2.2% +.30USD

> $100,001 - 1.9% +.30USD

Groovy, eh? The thing is, applying for the lower chargers is an OPT-in privilege and the opt in system is buried under menus. It’s almost like paypal wants you NOT to find it.

But no sweat. You can opt in here.

You’ll face this agreement sheet before signing up:

PayPal’s Merchant Rate

Merchant Rate Approval Criteria

Merchant Rate pricing approval is reserved for members in good standing (whose accounts are not currently under investigation) who meet the following criteria:

  • Received more than $3,000.00 USD in PayPal payments in the previous calendar month

Maintaining Your Merchant Rate

After qualifying for Merchant Rate pricing, all members are expected to:

  • Keep their PayPal account in good standing. Members may be downgraded to the Standard rate if a fee-generating payment volume of more than $3,000.00 USD is not maintained in the previous calendar month’s payment volume or if they have unresolved chargebacks.

Note: Members do NOT need to reapply for Merchant Rate pricing if payment volume drops below $3,000.00 USD, unless their account is downgraded to limited or if there are unresolved chargebacks.

Application

Members interested in receiving the Merchant Rate should apply via our online application form. This is a one-time application (exception in Note above).

Take note of it then proceed with enjoying lower transaction fees. It’s an almost instant approval process.

Once you hit $3,000 per month in revenues, the Merchant Rate drops your commission fees from 2.9% to 2.5%, then to 2.2% for greater than $10,000 a month and 1.9% if you hit beyond a hundred grand. Do the math. You save thousands of dollars by making the switch.
