Thief Uses GPS To Steal Cars

I know that you shouldn’t ‘applaud’ criminals, but sometimes you can’t help but admire their ingenuity.

Master criminal Mitsuhisa Kobayashi thought he had a foolproof way to steal cars. He would get his ex-wives to rent cars in which he would install a GPS tracking device, as well as making a copy of the key. Then at his leisure he would use the GPS to steal the car after it had been returned, by using the GPS to pinpoint it’s location.

When arrested (with three cars still in his possession), Kobayashi said:

” I wanted to drive my favourite cars.”

Quality!

I do wonder sometimes wonder who is tracking me when I’m out and about. Between my mobile phone signal, Nokia N95 GPS, Car GPS, Car tracker and a little card I have to carry with me when I drive to prove my keys aren’t stolen (I’m not too sure if it’s broadcasting), I’m sure somebody somewhere is keeping tabs on me!

Sounds like the case of a good plan, but poorly executed.  I don’t usually worry too much about people wanting to keep tabs on me.  In reality, I’m not as captivating as I like to think I am.

I would think that those rental cars have tracking devices on them on their own as well don’t they? lol

If you steal a GPS system can you be found out?

Wow, impressive! Guy has brains, and he used them. I know car stealing isn’t such great thing to be proud of, but still. Maybe if he’s so smart, he could do something better for the people? Like helping lowering high gas prices :)

Not sure what you mean there John?  Clever idea from the crim though….well…until he got caught.
