Console: Nintendo Wii (wii fit, mario cart & wii sports)
The Wii is really for my girlfriend who wanted a Wii Fit. It took me forever to find one, but in the end I found a Wii Fit in the strangest little toy shop you could ever come across. My girlfriend loves it and at times it’s almost like she thinks the board is her friend! I really wish I could post a video of her wiggling her hips, as it blows away the video below!
STB: Virgin Media V+
To be honest, I don’t really use this other than to watch Sky Sports. My girlfriend has mastered it though, and loves the PVR and iPlayer integration.
Remote: Logitech Harmony 885
I love Logitech Harmony remotes. If you have more than 2 sources connected in your system, I recommend that you get one of these. I never pickup my other remotes as the Harmony can do everything I need and using one button press to configure multiple devices can’t be beaten. Even my Dad who isn’t very tech-savvy was able to navigate around all my devices while I was at work when he stayed with me during August.
work with in the front room.
Networking: Netgear Gigabit router
Although I have a Netgear rangemax router I only actually use it wirelessly with my laptops. I just haven’t come across a wireless router yet that can handle streaming HD comfortably. The new 5GHz 802.11n routers claim that they can, but I decided to just run ethernet wires between my rooms in trunking. It was a lot cheaper costing only around £70-80, and I knew that I wouldn’t have any problems with my gigabit network, whereas buying a router from the latest gen was an unknown commodity.
That’s pretty much everything in my new setup, although there are a few more new bits and pieces scattered around the flat. I hope you’ve found this post interesting and feel free to post any questions about my components.
