Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia Delayed Until Oct 13th

I’ve been calling Vodafone in the UK nearly everyday so that I can pre-order my Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia and the launch date has been moving nearly everyday.  After initially expecting the Xperia X1 to be launched on 30th September, I was told this morning that the X1 Xperia won’t be launched until 13th October.

The delay has really been frustrating, not only because I really want the X1Xperia, but because my poor Nokia N95 is barely working as I’ve dropped it far too many times, and also because I want to ditch the HTC Touch that I’ve been using for work email.  I can’t wait until I have one phone that will do everything that I want to do.

To appease me, Sony Ericsson have updated the Xperia X1 website and added some very handy videos that allows me to see the X1 Xperia in action.  It looks very, very hot and even though I doubt the UI will be as fast as in the demos, I’m prepared to wait a few milliseconds.  It’s about Sony Ericsson did something to promote this phone as apart from techies like myself drooling over the phone, there doesn’t seem to be any buzz around the handset, which is good as It’ll be nice to have a n exclusive phone for once.

There are some reviews out there now about the X1 Xperia as well.  Dialaphone gave it a big thumbs up, which isn’t surprising as they sell handsets.  Techradar weren’t so in love with the X1 though, and really criticised the slow speed.  I think I can live with it as my current handsets aren’t exactly speedy, particularly my Nokia N95 that always runs out of memory.

Either way, I’ll be doing my upgrade to the X1 Xperia this month as I can’t afford to hang around and wait for the other next-gen handsets to hit the market.  I’m hoping I won’t regret it, because I’ll be stuck for 18 months unless a nice manufacturer gives me a new phone to ‘review’.

  • I have read a lot of great things about this phone. I must go and check it out in the store to see if it fit with my style

I managed to get my hands on one this weekend to play with.  The panel interface is a bit slow and it's not the fastest but I can live with it.

I've also been chasing Vodafone for a while. I had an email a couple of weeks ago saying that it was expected to be released on 17-Oct at around £370. On Saturday I was told that the date had moved to 22-Oct.

i got to play about with a dummy one in an O2 shop during the week. Felt soo good so close to getting it. What i found odd is the guy in teh shop had to go away in  the back to get it for me...

Why are SonyEricsson not advertising this phone, again good for me as it might actually be in stock when i call to get it.

o2 don't have a clue what they are doing with it Vodafone said 24th for def then changed it to date subject to change possibly end of the month.

i sooo can't wait til this handset comes out. :)
  • Its interesting to see that all the providers are finally switching to the qwerty keyboard. I got a e90 and have always had it, why do we have to learn another keyboard. Its so much easier this way especially now that so many people are surging the web through the cell phone. Think there is going to be a lot of change in the years to come.
  • This is looking like a very impressive mobile phone, I'd love to get a chance to have a play with one - I wonder how it will compare to Google Android handsets in the coming months.
