Getting BACK in Shape – Part 1 – Garmin Forerunner 305

First and foremost, those of you who have been regular readers of ConnectedInternet, you all know me as TimmyJ, or Listikal from www.listikal.com. I stopped blogging last fall, because I was in the process of switching my day job and moving, all at the same time. A year has passed, and I have finally begun to find more time to start blogging again.

I’ve stopped posting at Listikal, but have started fresh at TheWindowsFix.com, in hopes to post frequently on lots of info, on all things Tech, but more geared towards Windows users specifically. On here, I’ll be writing about anything and everything. Anyways, enough about me, I’m here today, to get back into shape.

I just recently got engaged and am in desperate need of shedding a few pounds from all of the dining out I’ve been doing, during the past year and a half with my girlfriend/fiancee. Five or six years ago, I shed quite a few pounds from just sheer discipline and determination. I drank nothing but water(minus the booze), and ate a very strict, low calorie diet, which turned into a 30 pound loss, over a six month period. This also included cutting out all ‘fatty’ fast food and desserts of any kind. I was also a consistent gym guy, where I consistently went 3-4 times a week for as long as two hours.

Today, it’s a different story, I eat way to much junk food, hardly drink water and only find myself going to gym or being active, about 2-3 times a month. Well, even though I’ve only just begun to get back into working out again, I did make a significant purchase over the summer, which has really been a great motivator, it’s the Garmin Forerunner 305.

The Garmin Forerunner 305, is one of the greatest device I have ever come across for working out, outdoors. To put it simply, it’s the utlimate GPS device for bikers, runners and walkers. Once your strap it to your writst, you are set to track workout activities by using it’s satellite’s in the sky, to track your speed, distance, time, pace, you name it, it’s got it. All of the data is displayed on your watch in real time, but then when you get it home, you upload it to your computer where you can log the data for analysis, but can also see visually where you traveled for the day via their software or online software, at www.motionbased.com.

For those of you who prefer a video review:

You can pick the Forerunner 305 for under $200.00(USD) at Amazon.

  • I think the key thing about the GPS devices like the Garmin Forerunner is that they give you feedback about your outdoors workouts just like in the gym.  With feedback you can improve your performance.
  • I've been trading hard for about 2 months now and must say that these types of training aids are really handy, along with protein shakes they are my fav training tool.
  • Just get yourself a treadmill, you wont need GPS to find you way to the garage/spare room!

Good luck though, get the mindset right and you will have no worries shedding the pounds.
