Microsoft’s New Xbox Experience (NXE) claims to be the ‘ultimate social entertainment experience’. Basically, NXE will replace the current Xbox 360 dashboard that’s been around for 3 years now. The NXE is set for release on November 19 and it will download just like a normal update.
Of course this being the Internet, there are already a bunch of pirated or leaked versions of the NXE floating around. However, don’t rush to install the NXE just yet. Microsoft claims to have an easy way to track who’s already using the update. And this time, Microsoft has decided to take stern action against the pirates.
So what exactly is in store for people who jump the gun on the NXE? Well, according to a few unconfirmed reports, anyone not in the select group of previewers will find that Xbox Live has been disabled on their console. The disabling lasts till the official release date of November 19.
That’s not the worst of it. Apparently, Microsoft might just decide to punish offenders further and kick them off Xbox Live permanently. At least that’s according to programming head Larry Hryb via Twitter. This does sound pretty far fetched and hasn’t happened yet but it goes to show just how serious Microsoft is about making sure no unwanted person accesses NXE before it’s released.
