It’s not a matter of the update being FREE, it’s a matter of proprietary ownership. Microsoft owns the software. When they release it to the public, they aren’t giving it away, they are extending their usage license to the public. Using the software before the official release may not technically be stealing any profit away from the company, but it is still stealing.

Just curious, but if it disables Live what are the chances that the official release will download on the 19th if your Live is disabled? Cant help but wonder!

yer i installed the nxe early, n i put the hdd on my other xbox and was’nt banned, it’s just that ms won’t like people doing it, but hey if, they do ban about i don’t know… say 1million people who regulary pay to play on xbox live because of downloading a free update early, ms’ profits will be down

I won’t be risking my Xbox Live for a few days of waiting!
But i do thing it’s a bit wrong/harsh of Microsoft to ban anyone permanently just for downloading something that is free anyway.

See i have download it it works but xbox live is disabled like mentioned cant get online avatars cant be used it says we need update and took my hdd it down to my dads house put it in his xbox no update no ban from xbl(to my profile)

I don’t understand why they would kick people off just for downloading something that I understand is free anyway.

It’s something that everyone will have so what difference does it make if they have it a few days before hand.

Why would they ban for life?! It’s a FREE software update, no one is modding their 360. If anything, it shows the enthusiasm 360 fans have for the update. If that happened to me and I had to buy another console to play online games, why would I buy another 360?! I’d just give PS3 a try. I don’t think Mircrosoft wants any of its early adopters (the majority that has downloaded the update “illegally”) to even give PS3 a try. Many of us are 1 console owners. Ignorance is bliss – a lot of 360 owners have never played a game on the PS3 or tried their online gaming. I don’t think Microsoft wants any of their 1 console owners to even think of investing in a PS3 just because we downloaded a FREE software update early. Think of how much they make on games and all the other media they sell. Why would they risk losing all that money per gamer over a FREE software update downloaded early?! Shyt! We just gave their servers a break on the 19th with our early downloading! That might be part of their master plan. The early “illegal” downloaders probably ensured a secure rollout of the NXE. These guys think these scenarios out thoroughly. That’s why they’re the giants they are now. LOL…It’s obvious I downloaded the NXE early so MS, don’t ban me. My DVD drive was starting to go bonkers from all the COD4 online gaming, I had to do the game installs. Now the system is so quiet and the textures look better too (Mass Effect). I don’t know why that would make a difference (reading off of the HDD as opposed to the optical drive). So, a computer science genius get back to me on that one.

I have to agree – it does seem silly to get a pirate copy so close to the release. I reckon the ban will only be until the release though – then they’ll (Msoft) want as many users as possible

I agree with you in the fact that its rather silly to try and grab a pirated copy of the NEX so close to release date, but i suppose to some die hardcore gamers, want to be one of the 1st to experience it, god only knows why.

If its anything like the windows operating system have done before then it will have a list of errors longer than the equator(bit of an exaggeration but you know what i mean )
