Choosing A New Dedicated Server

I’ve been hosting this blog and my other sites with PowerVPS for at over 2 years now and things have gone generally ok, with PowerVPS providing good support for my Dedicated Server.  PowerVPS gave me a very good deal on my dedicated server, but recently it has been struggling.  I think this has been driven by sheer traffic growth thanks to Windows 7 News, which is now the biggest site in terms of traffic and is getting close to a run rate of 1m page views per month.

So, I think it’s time for an upgrade to a server that can handle future growth.  I don’t really want to spend more than $250-300/pm for a fully managed dedicated server with full management.  I’m sure there are a lot of good deals out there at the moment.  The spec I’m trying to improve on is:

  • OS:              Centos 4
  • CPU:            Pentium D 3.0GHz
  • Ram:           4GB DDR2 533
  • Hard drive:  2 x 300GB Maxtor SATAII

Who would you recommend?

  • I find quick easy support with InfinitelyVirtual.com.  I have never had a problem.
  • I think what you really need is a dedicated machine. The specs of your current machine look quite nice though I'm guessing they are shared between other users on the machine.

Also, you really should be updating the OS :-) CentOS 4 is quite old.
  • I think IBM servers are the best!
  • have trusted hostgator in the past and never had a problem
  • Also I forgot go to say good luck with the new server, there are always teething problems but keep working at it and you will get through it
  • Well done on the reaching 1m page views per month. VPS does provide a value for money solution, but a dedicated machine is needed at those volumes.
  • @aloy
i had tried RZ also, it is cheap, but i still annoyed by the incoming email spam activity. or maybe  it because i am not set the spamassassin correctly.
  • I' ve tried Reseller Zoom, overall is good for me.

my suggestion is there is no system that 100% run smoothly, so try to reach a good data center and an easy supporting contact for fast fixing problem.
  • Wow scary. This is why it is recommended to backup everything you have.
