How To Revive a Zombisque PC

After a few months, every brand new PC, regardless of how many cores or memory chips it has installed, staggers to a comatose lumber. Most folks call in a pricey technician to get the ole box back to speed. Others invest in costly repair suites like Norton 360. I don’t. I do the smart thing and clean up my PC from spywares and viruses… using free tools, a registry defragmenter and a disk organizer to reorganise the sectors and recover some oomph.

Has your gone very slow? Get on your geekcap and let’s begin! Lets’ start with the Registry.

1) Run CCleaner to zap the registry of orphan keys in the registry and other clogging files. This software tends to ramp up speed by a whopping 20 percent or more, particularly at boot and shutdown.

2) Run a formidable and free antivirus at full scan. A great tool comes from Avast or AVG. Download it from http://avast.download–free.net/

Optionally, you can to download the “Malicious software removal tool from windows.” Google it by visiting http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=malicious+removal

The Microsoft tool isn’t that helpful – but it’s added protection.

3) Run a malware heuristic scanner that doesn’t rely much on signature files. This way, if some nasty gets by the virus scanner, the heuristic should chop it up. The best can be found here: http://www.threatfire.com/.

Threatfire protects the registry form unwanted intrusions. It barely takes space, is compatible with other AV and doesn’t hog resources. It does not need feeding (no need for signature updates )and works realtime even for new viruses. It is the first to raise a growl to any suspicious activity

4) Complete your complement of malware killers with a full scan from Spybot Search & Destroy. It’s found here http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Zap all that is found and immunize the system to prevent further reinfections.

5) After all the malware cleaning, run the registry cleaner again with cccleaner to remove last traces of gunk

6 ) Defrag the registry and make it compact. This shaves seconds of the boot time. TO DEFRAGEMENT the registry and reorganise all keys, visit http://www.brothersoft.com/free-registry-defrag-70592.html

7) And finally use the windows disk deframenter tool to rejuvenate your hard drive.(start\all programms\accessoiries\system tools\ There you go. A system restored to its former glory.

Ready for some speed?
