Feedback: What Motivates You To Blog?

What motivates you to blog? The promise of internet riches gained from little effort? Passion for something that inspires you to write about it? Just nothing better to do?

Making money on the web is a totally valid motivation. Hell, making money quick has been a pastime of man since money was invented. Just be good at it. You’re really not going to make any money off it if you aren’t, anyway.

Passion for a subject, or simply passion for writing is certainly a valid motivation as well. If more bloggers were motivated by passion the overall quality of web content would increase exponentially, provided some talent was present as well.

I mostly fall into the latter category. I have absolutely no problem with making a buck off my internet endeavors (naturally prefer to), but my main motivation is to create a resource that may be of use to a fellow net traveller. I also have a big ego, so having a public forum to express myself is attractive to me as well. Nothing I churn out is Pulitzer material, but every now and then I’ll take a look at something I did and feel that it’s really good, and that somebody out there might just think it’s really good too. That’s the feeling that keeps me coming back to the keyboard.

What drives you? Are you just drawing from the well or are you putting something back in?
