Go Back in Time with PlaySEGA

When I was a kid, I went through a phase where video games fascinated me. I still like gaming but I can’t help thinking about the good old games of the 80s. Sure, they’re nothing compared to the games available today but at that time, there was nothing cooler.

If you feel a little nostalgic and want to go back to the old days, then PlaySEGA is the site for you. As the name suggests, it is a site dedicated to SEGA games. Games on the site are divided into different categories depending on what type they are. So you have categories for card, arcade, quiz, puzzle games, etc. Sonic, the most famous face of SEGA has his very own section.

Games on PlaySEGA are free to play but before you can start you have to register at the site. Registration is free and after you do so, you get 2000 PlaySEGA rings in your account. These are like a form of currency for you to use to customize your avatar and ‘escape’ amongst other things.

PlaySEGA rings can be earned by playing games and reaching certain set points in them. The advantage of collecting rings is you can redeem them to participate in lucky draws conducted by the site. There are often cash prizes to be won here.

The site is perfect for SEGA fans as well as those looking for old-style games. Some people might not be too keen on having to register but if at any time you no longer want to be a site member, you can simply unsubscribe. After 24 months of inactivity, your account will be deleted.

The games themselves are fun and there’s a lot of fun to be had. One minus point for me was that there was no Mario, which is one of my favorites. What do you think of PlaySEGA? Do you know of any other sites that offer 80s games? Let me know.

  • Sega will always have a special place in my heart. My first console!
  • That is amazing, I grew up in the Sega vs Nintendo generation and I was always a Sega Boy so I am going to love playing all the old games.

    Thanks for the link

Haha. It was the same for me in the 90's when I was in my teens. I use to love going to the chip shop during lunchtimes and play on the arcade machines they would have. Streetfighter, Mortal Kombat and games like that. Brings back good memories. How I yearn for those days.
  • During the golden years of video games, I had an 8-bit Nintendo and was always envious of the kids with their Sega Genesis'.  I thought the games we so much cooler.
  • I agree with many that Sega makes really great games, but has failed in making game systems.  The games on that site are very fun.  I really liked the Brain game.
  • saga is really very great game.

Oh dear, there goes my lunchbreak!

Great site, thanks for the link. I'm never as excited about games now as I was about getting new things for my Sega!
  • Sega could be big player in console but the mess up everything with their Dreamcast. Maybe they're only suit to become game maker.

Sega didn't mess up the Dreamcast.  Sega America did.  At the time the announcement to drop the console business the Dreamcast was still holding well in Japan, and actually held the majority of games based on anime especially in the genres of puzzle and date-sims.  The Dreamcast did very well in Japan, but America was never ready for it.

The same applied to the Sega 32x and the Sega CD.  It was too much for people to handle so soon, and failed.  Sega didn't fail...America just couldn't keep up and took their time getting to where we are now.  Think about it, 32x came out at least a year before the Playstation did, and all you had to do was add it to your existing Genesis.  The only failing factor was that it required buying the lump and extra parts for new players.
  • SEGA games are nice but I personally remember (and long for) some of the games that came just before Sega. Now they may not have been as fancy as the Sega games but I think that they had just a little more "gameplay" which I feel it totally lacking in games today (well at least in many of the games that just try to "look good").
