Punditit.com – Become Your Own Sports Pundit

I stumbled across a new Pligg powered website last week called Punditit, which I thought was a very clever implementation of Pligg’s software to create a ‘digg’ based voting site. I was very surprised though to see that one of my colleagues who I used to sit next to was one of the founders!

I can’t count how many times I’ve had debates about whether Pele was over-rated (I believe so!), is Wayne Rooney a world class footballer, who’s the greatest boxer ever etc. Well Punditit allows users to have these debates and to become ‘professional pundits’, by allowing them to share sports news, comments, opinions and videos from anywhere on the web. The site uses a tried and tested formala with popular stories with the most votes promoted to the homepage.

I’m quite impressed by the site that the guys have pulled together as I know they’ve done it on a very tight budget, as I saw the budget for their first Pligg based site, which they used following my recommendation. They’ve even managed to add Facebook Connect, which allows users to not only login with their Facebook credentials but also to share their Punditit stories and opinions with their Facebook friends.

I really hope that Punditit proves to be successful for Fraser and Gregor, as they are great guys and it’d be nice to see a UK based social networking site take off for once.
