I’m more than happy to spread the word that the CEO of FaceBook Marck Zuckerberg has just announced in a blog post a few hours ago that Facebook has attracted more than 200 million users so far! Rumors has it that the exact number can be as close to 280 million.
The official number of Facebook users back in January 2009 was around 150 million. It grew to 170 million in February. That means almost half a million users registered on Facebook everyday. I really can’t think of a reason why Facebook shouldn’t get this appreciation.
Instead of just spreading the joy of his success, Zuckerberg also talked about the importance of charity and how such a great number of people in one place can do some good in the world. He said “To celebrate and support all of these voices and their potential to improve the world, we are creating a space on Facebook where people can share their stories about how Facebook has helped them give back to their communities, effect change or connect with a distant relative
He also added “We’ve also worked with 16 charitable and advocacy organisations to create gifts that are now available in our gift shop.
Its settled now, Facebook is officially the biggest social networking website on the globe today. This brings their rival MySpace to second position. I have been amazed at Facebooks rapid growth for the past few quarters myself, in fact I dont recall MySpace picking up this momentum at any time in its history.
You will agree that both sites are very different in what they bring to the table, but I would bet that Twitter is sneaking up on Facebook in terms of % of new users everyday. Question is “Is Twitter that good?”
