Bluetooth 3.0 Specifications to be announced on April 21

bluetooth Bluetooth 3.0 Specifications to be announced on April 21Rumors has it that the Special Interest Group (SIG) will announce the specifications for Bluetooth 3.0 on April 21, 2009. Bluetooth 3.0 is said to be the successor to the existing de-facto Bluetooth standard, the 2.0.

The new Bluetooth 3.0 is expected to show some major improvements by having the ability to transfer large video files, music collections and photo libraries wirelessly within seconds. In addition to that there will be a new feature known as the “Enhanced Power Control” which will reduce chances of disconnections caused by movement of the Bluetooth device.

Bluetooth 3.0 will use Generic Alternate MAC/PHY which lets Bluetooth profiles operate at Wi-Fi speed. The 802.11 Protocol Adaption Layer will enable the Generic AMP feature to be used with an 802.11 radio. This will allow users to pair 2 devices and transfer data using Wi-fi. If the Wi-fi is not available in one of the devices, data will be handled by Bluetooth.

I hope that new computers will have this available on them at the end of the year with Windows 7. I am planing on a new computer but this will make the more worth while.
