Popular AntiVirus Removal Tools

Yes, a good anti-virus should be in your arsenal to take care of all these new and old threats to keep your pc safe. But there are times when you need to uninstall a specific anti-virus software to install a better one or vice versa. Many may not come with a built-in uninstaller of it’s own so lets take a look at what can do to uninstall them. I’ll be covering the major anti-virus uninstallers here, namely, Symantec, Bit Defender, Avast and a tool that lets you get rid of Solomon, McAfee, Norton & FSAV.

Symantec:

Symantec provides all the tools that you need to uninstall their antivirus. There are 2 pages, one contains all Symantec Removal Tools in One Page which you can see & download here & second page contains removal tools for their corporate applications (here).

Avast Uninstall Utility:

Avast also provides a nifty utility that lets you uninstall their application easily.

You can download the software here. Restart Windows in safe mode and run the file. If it’s unable to find the directory, just specify it and click Remove. Just restart your computer and you won’t find any traces of Avast in your computer.

Bit Defender:

Bit Defender is another popular anti virus that is used by many people. Though, if you’re looking to uninstall it, here’s a small utility that lets you do so. You can uninstall it’s version 7, 8 and 9. Download here

Last but not least, another cool utility that lets you uninstall Dr Solomon, McAfee, Norton and FSAV without
the user having to know which one they have installed. Here’s a link to their FTP where you can download the files for your specific needs.

UNINSTA23.ZIP – uninstalls F-Secure AV Products
UNINSTAV.EXE – uninstalls all supported AV products
UNINMCVS.EXE – uninstalls McAfee VirusScan
UNINDRS.ZIP – uninstalls Dr Solomon AntiVirus Toolkit
UNINNAV.EXE – uninstalls Norton AntiVirus

These utilities can be run separately (UNINDRS.EXE needs its INI-file as well, found in the ZIP) or by running the “master” program UNINSTAV.EXE which contains all the other scripts and runs them one by one to
automatically uninstall the above mentioned applications.

I hope this helps you in uninstalling any of the mentioned anti virus softwares / applications. If it does, do mention it in your comments.
