I finally reluctantly joined Twitter in May, and very quickly wished I’d taken it more seriously. Like blogging, which I still believe I ignored for too long, I decided it was yet another timewaster I didn’t need and totally missed the opportunity that was available.
Since joining in May I’ve been working hard to build up my profile through promoting my posts, responding to replies and promoting other interesting posts. I’ve just broken through the 2000 twitter follower mark, and I’m hoping the next 1000 won’t take as long.
Has it been worth it? Most definitely! Twitter is now the 2nd or 3rd driver of traffic to my sites. You can see the impact of twitter in the number of Retweets I’m getting on posts now. Unlike individual Diggs that don’t have any impact unless you hit the Digg homepage, each Retweet can count and Retweets from big twitter users can send good amounts of traffic. I’m also convinced that twitter is, or will eventually allow me to tap into a different source of readers who are more mass market, who aren’t typical blog/RSS users.
