I went to watch Spurs V Barcelona last night with Microsoft at Wembley Stadium last night, and there were also Dell employees there as well. One of the many conversations I had was the relative cost of smartphones and PCs/netbooks, and how some phones now cost more than PCs.
This was further backed up this morning when I got an email from Expansys announcing that they are now selling unlocked iPhone 3GS phones for the massive price of £919.99. That’s nearly £1000 ($1600) for a phone; I don’t have any PCs that cost more than that. The iPhone 3GS is a great device and I would not give up my iPhone 3GS for the world, but that’s an obscene price for a smartphone. Yes, smartphones are replacing PCs for certain functions, but I could never justify spending more on a phone than a PC.
would you spend nearly a grand to buy an unlocked iPhone 3GS?
