How to Change the Size/Format of Multiple Images in One go

irfanview How to Change the Size/Format of Multiple Images in One goToday, a friend came to mine with about 300 pictures in his cell phone that he wanted to email someone. The only issue was that each image was about 1MB big. So sending 300MB over email is really not that easy. In fact it’s quiet annoying because even after adding the whole folder to “Zip” format the size only reduced from 300MB to somewhere around 250MB.

So I decided to look for an easy way to convert these images. I have used IrfanView in past but never really knew how useful it can become when you need to convert an entire folder of images in one go. Not just that it also lets you use the “Advanced” settings where you can set the width and height of the picture, crop all images, change color dept and more.

To get started simply download IrfanView and install it. The software is just 1.3MB.

Now open IrfanView >  Click File Menu and choose Batch converstion/Rename.

Here you have the option to simply convert the file type from tons of available format including JPG, PGN, BMP, TIF, RAW and a lot more. Simply choose the file from your system you want to convert, choose the path for these files and click “Start Batch”.

To reduce the size of all the picture “check” the advanced option tab and click “Advanced” which is located right below the “Output format”.

From this point on you can crop each picture according to your needs or simply choose the width and height of your image after checking the “Resize” box and click “ok” to reduce the size of your images.

By doing this I have converted my 1MB images to 70KB files without losing the quality of the image. The only thing reduced is the size and resolution.
