Automattic, the company behind WordPress purchased earlier this month the company behind After The Deadline, a next-gen spellchecker and the functionality is now available as a WordPress plugin. After The Deadline goes so much further than other spellcheckers.
Not only does it correct misspellings, it can also help fix correctly spelled words that are used in the wrong place or context e.g. common errors like:
- there and thier
- now and know
- new and knew
i.e. it checks to see if words are used in the right context. It can also check for clichés, double-negatives, passive voice, and other problems that generally weaken posts. (oh, and it finally includes words like wordpress, blog and blogging in the dictionary!)
The video below best explains the power of After The Deadline, which will only get better now that millions of WordPress blog posts are being analysed by the system:
To install the After The Deadline plugin you need to get a free API and after installation you have to remember to activate the features in your WordPress profile.
