CEATEC, the gadget extravaganza that happens every year in Japan, is on right now. As anticipated, the main Asian and quite a few non-Asian companies have bought up booth space there in order to show off their latest and greatest. Most of them are concept designs that are but mere glimpses in to the future that is yet to come.
But their beauty, ingenuity and craftsmanship is worth taking a look at. So here’s a round up of the best new things on display at CEATEC right now. Enjoy drooling over some of them, I know I will.
Lenovo IdeaPad U150 Spotted
This little 11inch device was found to be on display at the Lenovo booth at CEATEC. It is worth a mention because this is something that Lenovo has not announced as of yet. It is a netbook like device that is powered by Intel’s Core 2 Duo SU4100 ULV chip, 2GB of RAM and integrated graphics. These are the devices that have the perfect balance between power and power efficiency and are probably the future of consumer portables. [Liliputing]
Kohjinsha Dual-Screen Protoype
Kohjinsha Shows us a proof of concept that just looks too cool to resist. They have on display a netbook that has twin LCD screens with a maximum resolution of 1366×768 on each screen. The prototype of this version looks really good and the configuration sounds even better – Athlon Neo 1.6GHz, 4GB of RAM and Dual 10.1” LCD screens. What can I say, I am tired of these 1GB RAM devices that do not have much screen real estate. [Akhiabara news]
Home Power Cells And Fuel Cells From Panasonic
Panasonic has been paying some attention to empowering homes to power themselves. So they have been showing off concept power cells that have been formed with the kind of Lithium Ion battery that is commonly used in Laptops. These batteries would join together to form power cell units that would store up the energy generated by alternative means like solar cells and wind turbines.
They also have fuel cells on display that would generate hot water and electricity at the same time. [Crunchgear]
Flexible OLED Display From Sony
About a month or two ago, Sony was showing off paper thin flexible OLED screens that would make future laptops reed thin. Well now they have a prototype on display at CEATEC and it looks every bit as sexy as a futuristic looking portable can be. Just imagine taking a scroll out of your pocket, spreading it out flat and then starting to work on it – a multitouch flexible display. That’s the stuff of geeky gadget dreams. I just hope Apple and Sony are listening to these ramblings. [Akihabara news]
Futjitsu Concept Phones

Just like last year, Fujitsu has been showing off amazing concept phones at this year’s CEATEC. There’s the one that looks like a silicone cuboid with a green dot. There’s another one with a round dial that is attached to a handle. Then there is a pen. Yes, a pen that is a mobile phone and can project a keyboard and a screen for you to use. But the best looking of the lot has to be the bracelet phone. Reminds me of those futuristic animes and their battle armors. This one looks like a prettified part of the huge battle armor in Ghost In the Shell (SAC). [photo gallery at cnet news]
Toshiba Cell Regza is like TiVo On Massive Steroid Overload
The brillant HD TV with a cell processor and a mammoth 3TB of dedicated storage for giving your 26 hours of time shift recording for up to 8 channels simultaneously. Now do you believe me? [Gizmodo]
TDK Shows Off Optical Discs That Can Hold 320GB
Nothing to see here. Just hear the news and move on. This is just a new way to lose more data per scratch. I’d rather buy HDDs and store them in a DIY EMG shielded store. [Tech On]
