DirectX Now Available To Vista Users

The new DirectX 11 that comes loaded on the Windows 7 operating system is much better than the previous DirectX 10.1 in numerous areas. The quality of games and visuals being enjoyed on the current Vista DirectX is immensely enhanced by the new DirectX. Therefore with Windows 7 launched, gamers might be worried that they won’t be able to enjoy the blow-you-away game graphics unless they decide to upgrade their operating system to 7. But gamers and all people concerned need not worry. We’ve got some great news.

Now you can use DirectX 11 and enjoy its features right on your Windows Vista! This can be done via a platform update which Microsoft is offering for Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2.

The great platform update is spread over four parts. The part/library which includes DirectX 11 is the Windows Graphics, Imaging, and XPS Library. The same part also contains DirectCompute for hardware accelerated parallel computing; the XPS Library is included for document printing.

Other great features of this platform update are:

  • Windows Portable Devices Format, which standardizes data transfers between application and external devices e.g. cellphones, mp3 players, etc.
  • Microsoft’s ‘Ribbon’ technology can be used via ‘Windows Ribbon and Animation Manager Library’ which lets you manage execute user element animations.
  • The Windows Automation API enables accessibility tools and test automations to access the Windows user interface in a consistent way across operating system versions.”

Currently the only way to obtain the new Direct X on your Vista or Server system, is by using this platform update. Microsoft has announced no news about the release of an updated runtime.

So head on over to the Microsoft’s website and enjoy the wonderful graphics of DirectX 11 and other great features which this platform update has to offer.
