Apple has been pretty busy over these past few weeks it seems. We are covered by a positive deluge of Apple news.
But before we dive into it, I must mention the news of the new Microsoft store opening up in Mission Viejo. The opening was a success beyond a shadow of a doubt. Over a thousand people gathered at the store opening and more came in as the day rolled into evening and Frank Ury started performing. It has become one of the historical events in tech and it is definitely everything Microsoft could’ve hoped for. Whether they can keep this up is something that we all have to wait and see. Now on to Apple.

All you comic book plus iPhone lovers can now celebrate, jump up and down and make merry in general. Marvel Comics has made an appearance on the iTunes store, deep within the App store. iPhone users can now read about 71 different Marvel Comics titles through the three comic reader apps – Comixology, iVerse and PanelFly. Amongst the titles are names like The Astonishing X-Men, X-Men Age Of Apocalypse, Captain America, X-23, etc. You can buy the titles at $1.99 through the in-app catalogues on Comixology and iVerse. The same titles on PanelFly are for $0.99.

Next we have the official Settlers of Catan appearing on the iPhone. This is a classic board game that has won many awards and remains one of the best designed board games of all times. The main aim of the board game is to capture settlements and build roads on a tropical islands while competing with other players doing the same thing. The game can be played by a maximum of four people.
The iPhone App can be played against other humans or the AI. For playing with your friends, you will have to pass the phone around because there is no WiFi multiplayer mode. Over all, this is a nice addition to the other great games available in the app store. It is selling for $5.
Another app that is currently getting a lot of coverage and praise is the Jibbigo app. This is an app that will translate English into Spanish in real-time as you speak. Not only that, it will then read out the translation so that the Spanish-speaking party can understand what you are saying. And to avoid leaving you hanging, it also works in reverse. It translates what is being spoken in Spanish into English and then reads it out to you. Travelers to Spanish speaking areas will find this phone really handy, especially because this app is self-contained and does not rely on the Internet to make the translations. It is selling for $25.
If you are a fan of time-lapse video, you can check out the Timelapser app that is selling for $1 on the App Store. Time-lapse videos are shot at extremely slow frame rates and are then played back at a higher speed. This way, hours or days worth of footage is compressed in to a few minutes. It is a really simplistic app (not a very sleek one, I might add) and it is adequately cheap.
