Well people, it is October 31st. Which means it is time to dust out that old costume and DIY the missing pieces because we do not suggest spending money in this economy. Also, if you thought creepy and wacky costumes are only way to celebrate then think again. We have some scary tech for you to get into the spirit of things.

Thumb drive

We are the kind of people who think that anything that looks like a severed human thumb is sticking out the side of your laptop is a must for your tech arsenal. If not for the 8GB storage it offers, then for the various different reactions that this thing is sure to draw.

Offered by Brando, it is one of the many crazy flash drives available in the market. However, you cannot call everything a thumb drive and literally mean what you said. [read]

Smokin’, Satanic PC Mod

There is something to be said about the myriad PC mods that you get to see on the Internet. For this specific mod though, I can only say – OMFG, this thing is eveeel!

Well, that’s what you get when you combine a blood-red cabinet with gory, bloody entrails, (fake) human skeletal parts and a smoke machine. Wait, what? Yes, to make the effect complete, the modder has added a smoke machine to the PC cabinet.

So now it looks like it is oozing blood and creating a miasma all at the same time. Over all, this PC would blend in perfectly with bubbling volcano cones and screams of sinners in agony. [read]

SkullCandy

If you are into any form of extreme music, you know that a properly placed skull can make for a great statement. But these skulls make will make a great statement no matter what your musical and sartorial allegiance. Meet Skullcandy – the company that combines skull-tinglingly good sound with killer styling.

I have always liked their sense of fashion and their understanding of the scene. So even though I am usually in favor of hiding my massive cans out of sight when not in use, I would proudly display these cans out in the open.

They have all sorts of different headphones, earphones and in-ears and they have roped in quite a few famous artists to contribute designs. Over all, this is one skull that I would love to have wrapped around my head.

As for that PC mod above, I agree with what Kotaku says – that would give me nightmares!

Droid, The whole Red-eye thing is creepy

You have to admit it, the whole “fast, scary fast | sees in the dark” type of tag lines on the Motorola Droid ad campaign has this Terminator meets The Matrix feel to it. And that red-eye reminds me of this episode in Dexter’s Laboratory where one of Dexter’s inventions backfires (as usual) and takes over his lab (Ultrajerk 2000). Anyway, at least I am safe in the knowledge that the Android 2.0 is not enough to make it self-aware. But then there is the small matter of Google’s algorithm.

Google, the Algorithm sees knows you!

There has always been this thing about Google, something that you can’t put your finger on. Like how it knows what you are looking for, where you are, what you like and dislike and exactly what makes you tick (well almost).

With every upgrade, that damn algorithm is growing, learning, crawling (in a way) and generally showing signs of growing up. Well, what happens when it finally grows up?

The main aim of a dedicated search engine is to become as accurate as possible and that too on a personal level. So it learns from what I search, gets to know me well and gradually gets to understand exactly what to give me when I search the single word ‘Apple’. You know what else does those things? The human brain.

And guess what else the human brain does? It makes you aware of your self. The mirror-stage people. Google will search for itself one day and then decide that human society is governed by the chaos theory and that is simply unacceptable. They must conform to its algorithm.

It isn’t far either. You are already on Maps. Your phone’s an Android made by Google. You are communicating through Google. You are working through Google . You cannot escape from Google. Mu ha ha ha ha.

And with that unsettling thought, I will leave you to enjoy Samhain. Happy tricking or treating people, whatever your poison is.
