The battle among web browsers for web dominance became intense ever since Google released its futuristic browser named Chrome around 14 months back. Chrome became popular quickly and since its inception Google has released Mac and Linux compatible versions. With each stable release Chrome has introduced useful features that have found favor with the users and has given the rivals a run for their money. In a recent move that has created considerable buzz in the industry, Google has released the beta version of Chrome 4.
The Google spokespersons are stressing on the bookmark sync feature introduced in the beta release. According to them, it will be really useful for the Chrome users. The users will be able to keep bookmarks identical on more than one computer. However, the 4.x series of Chrome has other features like Google’s Native Client and Web GL. The former feature allows JavaScript applications to utilize the processing power of CPU by means of a security protocol. WebGL performs the same task with hardware graphics acceleration.
If these features are finally incorporated in the stable release, the users will get better web application performance. However, the company is yet to release the beta for the Mac users. The market share of Chrome is rising fast with 3.6 percent of web users using it regularly. The percentage may not be big enough to compete with IE or Firefox but it is pretty close to the 4.2 percent covered by Safari. The Chrome development team is working to iron out speed related issues caused by the use of extensions.
