This blog started over 4.5 years ago and since then over 3,000 posts have been written by dozens of authors, creating thousands of external links. Over time some of these links have become broken which can frustrate readers who are still finding those articles via search engines. Google recommends that webmasters should check frequently for broken links, which is very hard when you have a lot of posts like this site.
Thanks to ghacks I’ve just added a new plugin that automatically checks all WordPress posts for broken links every couple fo days. The WordPress Broken Link Checker works in the background to make sure all of your links are still working. If you have a big site the first run can take a few hours but results are shown in real-time so you don’t have to wait until the end to fix any broken links. I’m not sure how server intensive it is, so I’d recommend installing it overnight or at the weekend.
Features:
- Checks your posts (and pages) in the background (whenever the WP admin panel is open ).
- Detects links that don’t work and missing images. Checks both internal and outbound links.
- Notifies you on the Dashboard if any problems are found.
- Link checking intervals can be configured.
- New/modified posts are checked ASAP.
