How To Display Thumbnails In Related Posts

Over the last couple of months I’ve been looking on enviously at blogs that display post thumbnails with their related posts. Adding related posts is probably one of the best additions to a blog as it allows readers to very quickly find more posts to read that are similar to the one that they’ve just read. Adding thumbnails makes the related posts look even more enticing and helps them stand out even more, increasing the clickthrough rate.
After a few quick google searches I learned how to add thumbnails and I managed to add them this morning literally in a few minutes. I’m thankful that the method I used utilises the Yet Another Related Posts Plugin or YARPP as it’s the best one available for WordPress, because if provides the most accurate results and provides some very useful options. For the last couple of versions YARPP has allowed users to create their own custom templates for displaying their related posts, and this is what I used to display my related post thumbnails which you can now see at the bottom of every post:
To create my thumbnails I used this guide as a starting point. Luckily, I’ve used a wordpress theme for the last year or so that has the capability to add post thumbnails, so I already have a lot of images in the database that I can use. If you do decide to make this modification to your blog, I’d recommend also installing the WP Post Thumbnail plugin as well which makes it even easer to create thumbnails.
