Google Introduces 3 New Features to their Translate tool

googleCountless internet users take advantage of various translation tools available online for free. If you’re one of these users, you already know that Google Translate is the best amongst these tools. And guess what… the best just got better!

Google has just added three new and brilliant improvements to their Translate tool. Let’s have a look at what they are:

1. Here’s how you currently work with Google Translate: you type your sentence, click ‘Translate’ and have the translated text presented to you. But like all other application hooked on real-time, why should Google hold back? You guess it, now you can translate what you type as you type! How cool is that? All you do is type in your text in the field and the page refreshes to show you your translation. The translation also provides you with help on how to pronounce the word. Which bring us to our next feature!

2. Phonetics (pronouncing words) is a very important part of language. Say you know how something is written in Chinese but you can’t really pronounce it. That can prove to be a major hurdle. But with Translate’s new feature, you don’t have to worry anymore. Of the 51 languages Google Translate supports, almost all of them can be Romanized so that the text appears in phonetic English.

Doesn’t this make life much easier? But what’s even more impressive is that it works backwards too! That is, if you know how a word sounds in some other language but don’t know how to write it, the Input Transliteration feature lets you type in the word in English. Google will then match the word itself! (*Right now, this works for all non-Roman languages except for Hebrew, Arabic and Persian.)

3. If deciphering the English phonetics is just too hard and all you want is for somebody to help you and actually say the word, just use text-to-speech and have Google Translation pronounce the word. This ensures that no mistakes are made if you ever use the word in public.

Google is continuing to make life more convenient for internet users; by adding these super features to an already great service, they truly deserve two thumbs up. Good job, Google!
