I do! It’s literally like NOX for the laptop.
For those unaware of this technology, ASUS developed some software that allows netbook users to select between four modes: Power Saving, Normal, High Performance and SuperPerformance. Running the application tweaks several hardware settings very safely. One of the settings is the bus speed. With SuperHybrid Engine, the user can make a 1.6Ghz Atom run as fast as 1.9Ghz or as slow as 900Mhz. The choice depends on your usage. Running spreadsheets with heavy macros? Try SuperPerformance. Want extra battery life, go for Power Saving.
It really does work. On standard mode, my netbook with wifi enabled tends to last 6 hours. But when throttled at Power Saving, it lasts almost 9 hours. (Asus claims it can reach 11hours). That’s with wifi enabled and a lot of apps running. Amazingly, performance doesn’t seem to suffer. The Atom responds with verve.
Want some speed? Go for Super High Performance. The gigahertz rating leaps beyond the standard 1.6Ghz. Things feel much snappier then- making the netbook capable of running even some rather graphic intensive games!
Imagine what this app will do for those upcoming dual core Atoms (330 Series). Maybe it can switch off cores?
