Google Nexus One Specs Leaked

While the Google Phone, which is set to be called the Nexus one, hasn’t been officially announced yet be Google, some hardware specs have emerging about it.

While the Google employees have the Nexus One, they are keeping to their word and haven’t revealed any secrets about it yet. However ROM hackers have been able to dig deep into the phone’s system files to reveal the list of hardware we can expect from the Nexus One.20091214nexusone

The guys over at Thesearethedroids.com have managed to put together the first list of hardware specs for the Nexus One. What they’ve come up with are quite impressive and if they turn out to be true, this Google phone could be a real competitor for Apples iPhone.

After digging through Android 2.1, These Are The Droids have come up with the following specs.

A proximity and ambient light sensor, an accelerometer, a magnetic compass, WiFi, Bluetooth, a stereo FM speaker, a noise-cancellation chipset, OpenGL ES 2.0-capable graphics, and references to an 5mp auto-focus camera with LED flash. A 3.7-inch capacitive touch screen. There also seems to be evidence of a Snapdragon processor which is capable of speeds up to 1GHz, with 320MB RAM and 512MB ROM, to put that into context, that’s nearly double the computing power of the new Motorola Droid and the iPhone’s 3GS which both have a 600MHz processor.

So there’s plenty of power and features, and the pics that have leaked so far sport a very thin, clean device. The OpenGL ES 2.o graphics are on par with the iPhone so it will be more than capable of gaming. It also sports a FM tuner, which has been lacking on the iPhone for so long now. Another plus for this Google Phone, is the 5mp auto-focus camera with a LED Flash, another thing missing from the iPhone. Jason Howell, from Cnet recently reported on his hands on experience with the device and noted how snappy and responsive the device was, he was also taken aback by how good the screen was, saying it was ” Droid Like”

I’m really liking the look of this new Google Phone and as I said earlier, if these specs turn out to be true, it could cause some headaches for Apple. The Nexus One will also be quite appealing if the rumors about it being sold unlocked turn out to be true as well. And while it may not currently have an app store the size of Apple’s (100,000 apps) the Android Market Place is the first real competitor to it with 20,000 apps as we recently reported.nexus_6

I’m currently in the market for a new smartphone, I’ve been looking at the iPhone 3GS , Motorola Milestone ( Droid in the US ) and I’m dying to see what this Nexus One will be like before I make a decision.

What’s your guys opinion on it? Could it be the first real rival to the iPhone? Which would you choose?

  • I think that if anyone, google will be able to piece together an end user experience to rival the iphone. The apps will be key along with media management. Google should be able to feature their own apps along with others like rhapsody to offer an alternative to iTunes and their offerings.
  • Better than twice the screen resolution, almost twice the processing power, and the ability to multitask.

Not much of a choice. Nexus One or HTC Bravo.
