What I’d Like In Windows 8

Windows 7 deserves applause. The programmers whipped up a super package that nicely trounces Windows XP in terms of performance and security. It’s a worthy upgrade for every system- even Celeron 1GHz with a piddling 1GB of RAM.  Amazingly, the golden haired new OS had barely saturated the market, and already there is news of  Windows 8 being readied for up coming releases. If this new system will include several wishes, I’ll gladly upgrade from Windows 7. If not- I’ll wait till the next next release. Here’s what I want:

Instant Start/ Shutdown I want my Windows to perform like a Ferarri. Flick the switch and its humming away. I don’t like my Windows to cough, stutter and backfire for a full 5 minutes before giving a usable desktop. The Mac does this. Press the on switch, and you have a desktop in 5 seconds. Press Off, and it shuts down in two. Considering that the Mac boasts a prettier GUI, why can’t Windows do the same? Currently, Win7 starts up in 8 to 15 seconds- but that’s on a QuadCore with 8GB of RAM! Macs don’t have that muscle, but its Leopard OS still runs rings around Windows 7.

True Invulnerability. I’m tired of virus scanners taking resources. I’m sick of malware  pawning a freshly configured system. Mac users don’t worry about viruses. Generally. Can’t Windows do the same? Microsoft commands a massive warchest several hundred times larger than Apple’s. Why can’t Microsoft create a secure system??

Works with My Old Stuff It’s annoying that every system upgrade demands throwing out many old pieces of software. When I switched to Windows 7, I had to kiss my $1000 AutoCad 2004 goodbye! I will not permit Windows 8 to kick out anymore costly software I already purchased.

Slim and Trim Yep, hard discs keep getting cheaper. These days a terabyte can be had for $300. That doesn’t mean that I should tolerate bloat! Bloatware like Norton Systemworks and MS Office 2007 no longer reside in my PC coz they took up too much space. Give me slim software with excellent features and I’ll buy it!

What about you. What are the minimum requirements you’d have for Windows8?

''I’m tired of virus scanners taking resources. I’m sick of malware pawning a freshly configured system. Mac users don’t worry about viruses. Generally. Can’t Windows do the same?''

The day more than 50% of people will use MAC (which will never happen), then hackers will spend making viruses for MAC instead of Windows.

Hackers won't waste their time making a virus for 5% of the computers. That's that.
  • I would like that it wouldn't install drivers by itself without asking for user permission. This is a problem that happens in Windows XP also. If you do a fresh install and Windows has the drivers included it will install them without prompting you so if I want to install a newer driver I have to uninstall the old one. Windows 7 installs everything and that is just annoying. Like you, I would also like no viruses or spam but that is just a dream :D
