LG and Panasonic are set to feature built in Skype support in their TV’s and allow 720p video calling right in your living room. In addition to purchasing a Skype compatible TV, you will also have to buy an additional webcam and mic as they won’t be built into the TV’s. Skype estimates that about one-third of Skype calls already include video. The new service in partnership with LG and Panasonic will enable users to use TVs in their living rooms to accommodate several viewers at the same time.

These webcams include specially-designed microphones which let you make calls from the comfort of your sofa, without having to move closer to the TV or shout*. And the TVs from Panasonic and LG will even allow you to make HD video calls.

PC users haven’t been left out either with 720p HD streaming built into the latest version of Skype and new webcams on the way from faceVsion and In Store Solutions. Like the ones planned for the TVs, they handle video processing onboard so even older computers or underpowered netbooks can support HD streaming without too much trouble. panasonic skype ces2010 400x302 Skype Coming To Your HDTV The great thing about Skype is it’s free and it will be remaining that way and their will be no additional charge for using it on your TV, apart from the Hardware expenses.
