Google Offers Click To Call Mobile Ads

I’m sure you may not like seeing ads on the websites you visit, but try and remember that they are a ” Necessary Evil ” as Everton once put it. It isn’t free to run a website and constantly provide up to date content for it so please remember this next time you express your distaste towards ads.

Google are a well known market leader in the world of internet advertising thanks to its Google Adwords for businesses etc.. and Google Adsense for publishers. Well now they’ve added a new feature to their Adwords department. The new Click To Call ads will enable users on mobile devices to call a business directly when they click on an advert. Mobile adverts are becoming more popular as more and more people are using mobile devices to access the web. Normally when you click on an advert you are directed to a website, you will then have to go looking for a mobile number on that page if you are looking to contact them.

Well now these new Click To Call ads will allow users to simply click on the ad and there phone will automatically ring the specified number.

Sometimes when you’re searching for a local business on your mobile device, you’re not looking for their web site, but rather to connect by phone. “After searching for a restaurant, you might want to call and make a reservation. Or after searching for a video store, you might want to find out if they have the video you want.”

Said Surojit Chatterjee, product manager for Google’s mobile-ads team.

What’s more, the ads are smart, you wont end up calling a restaurant in Tokyo if your in London, since the ads are based on your location. And if a store or restaurant has multiple locations, you will automatically ring the closest one to your location. The feature takes information broadcast from mobile towers near users to approximate their current location. Google admits it’s not quite GPS, but insists it comes pretty close.

This new feature also benefits advertisers since they would probably prefer to receive phone calls rather than just a website hit. The cost of the click on the phone number is the same as the cost of a click to visit the web site. Chatterjee also says that advertisers are seeing up to a 30% increase in their click through rate thanks to this new feature.

“Not only does this feature offer helpful information for users, but advertisers who participated in our beta trial saw really great results, ranging from five to 30 percent increases in their click-through rates,

What do you think of this new form of advertising? Would you find it helpful?
