Google Looking To Launch 1Gbps ISP Service With Competitive Prices

Google, yet again are looking to expand the wide range of products and services that they provide. They never seem to be happy with the rate at which we all change with technology and are constantly pushing us to keep up to date. It’s a good thing in that it continues to keep this rapidly moving industry going in the right direction.

Well now Google wants to  provide 50,000 to 500,000 people with fiber-optic broadband Internet access with a network speed of a gigabit per second starting as soon as this year.

We’re planning to build and test ultra high-speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the United States. We’ll deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today with 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections,”

According to Google product managers Minnie Ingersoll and James Kelly said in a blog post. The company plans to use the experiment to test new ways to build fiber networks and to see what applications programmers can write that will take full advantage of the faster download speeds. I must say, I would be very happy with a 1GB internet connection in my house but for now it seems that Google are only looking into developing this infrastructure in the US.

Google also make the point that broadband is essential to not only keeping the industry driving forward, but also to changing the way how we live and work as well as providing jobs and economic growth.fiber house Google Looking To Launch 1Gbps ISP Service With Competitive Prices

“High-speed Internet access must be much more widely available. Broadband is a major driver of new jobs and businesses, yet we rank only 15th in the world for access. More government support for broadband remains critical”

Google are constantly pushing and looking for better internet connections and accessibility around the world. They have been responsible for sponsoring free Wi-Fi on planes and in airports after they invested in Clearwire ( a wireless networking company ).

For the moment there is not definite plans and dates as to when this new ISP by Google will be rolled out and Google are currently asking “interested communities” to contact them as they are looking for partners to work with.

What do you think of having Google as in ISP? Personally I don’t know if I would like it too much, Google already know enough about me just through my browsing habits and Gmail, with them as my ISP they would know every single website I visit. Again leading the way for their targeted advertisements and god knows what else Google have planned for us!
