Google Chrome Growing – Everyone Else Shrinking

Google’s very own browser Google Chrome, seems to be winning in the browser battle. While it may not be leading in terms of market share, it is in terms of growth, and it’s doing so at the others expense.

According to NetApplications.net, Google Chrome was the only significant web browser to gain market share last month. Chrome saw an increase of 0.4% for the month of February to grab itself 5.61% of the world wide browser usage. Every other large browser saw a decline in its overall market share.

Internet Explorer continued its usual trend and fell once again to a record low of 61.58 percent. However surprisingly enough, both Firefox and Safari also declined to 24.23 percent and 4.45 percent each, not something we’re used to seeing. Even Opera saw a decrease in its market share from 2.32%, down 0.03% chrome Google Chrome Growing Everyone Else Shrinking

Firefox were rapidly gaining market share, most notably from IE over the last year or so, but in this is the third straight month in a row where they have seen a drop in their market share. While it may not be a huge drop, it’s a drop all the same and just goes to show that Chrome is well able to get in their and compete with the big boys. Google chrome has managed to double its market share in the last six months, and the browser industry is not an easy one to get into to.

What has probably helped Google out here is the fact that their browser is now available on all 3 major platforms, Window, Mac and Linux. This no doubt gave them a boost as users began to try out the browser for the first time on Mac and Linux.

Google also continues to update Chrome at a rapid pace, you don’t know about it because Chrome updates silently in the background without you ever knowing. Mozzila had a similar update pace when Firefox was first released but they have said that they will not be able to keep up this pace anymore.

I also reckon that Googles massive market that it has to advertise for free to is really helping them out. I regularly see advertisements on Googles homepage and around the web to encourage me to install Google chrome and I’m sure that the new browser ballot for Windows machines will see them gain some more market share in the not to distant future.
