Google TV Coming To A Living Room Near You

Some of our regular readers may know by now that I really like what Google is doing, but I think they are just going too far and are trying to get involved in everything under the sun. I wouldn’t be surprised if Google were looking into developing a new car or plane, they just seem to be putting their hand to everything these days.

So what’s there most recent adventure? Well it seems that Google don’t feel their getting to see you enough everyday on the web, so their on the way to the comfort of your sofa and onto your TV. The project, which has been under way for several months, was described by people with knowledge of it. They requested anonymity because the partners were not allowed to speak publicly at this point, and details remained under negotiation.googletv Google TV Coming To A Living Room Near You

Google, Sony and Intel have all joined forces to gain access to your living room, where you once thought you were safe from Google’s ads. The “Secret Project” is said to make use of TV’s and Set Top boxes to make the internet web browsing experience on your television just as simple as it would be browsing through channels.

Sony are set to provide the main hardware components in the equation, ie. the TV, and the tech power required is to provided by Intel. Where Google comes in is with their software, The new service will be based on Android, and will be similarly open to third-party app developers with an SDK expected in the coming months.

There’s also reports that they’ve managed to get Logitech involved in this little venture as well. They’ve been recruited to come up with some remote controls and external keyboards.

Of course spokespersons from all four companies are playing dumb and have nothing to say at this point but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are working on a project like this. What’s more a few interesting job opportunities have been popping up looking for people with Android experience from Intel so they’re certainly looking into it anyway.

Why does it not surprise me that Google are trying to get into our living rooms? More and more set top boxes and TV’s are beginning to offer web experiences, while these are limited, I think Google is expecting the whole web experience on your TV to take off soon. And of course, Google have to be there to make sure we get our fair dosage of Google ads.
