Virgin Media has today announced the launch of a trial service for it’s Virgin media Player. This would allow Virgin Media subscribers to view “hundreds of hours” of programmes and movies from broadcasters.
Those included in the trial include ITV, Living, Disney, The Cartoon Network, National Geographic Channel, MTV and Nickelodeon.
This is a similar service to Sky TVs SkyPlayer service which the satellite broadcaster additional supports through Windows Media Centre in the UK on Windows 7.
The trail should launch some time later today at www.virginmedia.com/player for customers who also have their broadband service with the company. The launch will later move to offer support for mobile devices.
Virgin Media is riding high in the UK on the news that it’s cable broadband service is, on average, at least double the speed of ADSL in the country. It has been offering additional services in recent months and ever faster broadband speeds and this looks set to continue as the company expands its subscriber base.
