I just love stories like this as they can only make you laugh but it’s now emerged that Phillip Shoemaker, who is the director of applications technology at Apple, which runs the app store process, also sells his own iPhone apps under the company name Gray Noodle.
His own apps include iWiz, a novel little program to “simulate the experience of urinating for along time” and Animal Farts, which gives you a range of animals and activities ranging from Fart to Poot. The apps range from $1 to $2 in price.

It is utterly hilarious frankly that the man who runs Apple’s App Store, and is ultimately responsible for approving or banning certain types of apps, has such a brilliant sense of humour.
Apple is one of many technology companies, Google being another high profile example, who like to think outside of the box when hiring staff. This is one such example of how the company has hired an executive with an imagination.
The link between the man behind the behinds was uncovered by Wired magazine, who linked him to the fart apps through some of his social networking profiles (since deleted). When asked for a statement and Apple spokeswoman said…
“Phillip’s apps were written, submitted and approved before he became an Apple employee. His experience and perspective as a developer is one of the valuable things he brings to Apple’s developer relations team. Apple’s policy allows for employees to have apps on the App Store if they’re developed and published prior to their start at Apple.”
According to Wired, Apple has no policy against fart apps and is frequently criticised for having too many of them. A search in the app store for the word “fart” currently returns 745 iPhone apps and 37 for the iPad.
While Shoemaker might have removed all references to Gray Noodle and the apps from his social networking profiles, we think he should be applauded just for being a brilliantly normal human being.
