Controversial website WikiLeaks has been shut down by its hosting company, Amazon prompting WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange to say some very angry things on Twitter about the company.
WikiLeaks moved it’s hosting to Amazon’s EC2 cloud platform after a denial of service attack on its Swedish host Bahnhof. Currently, visitors to the site are presented by the message below.
WikiLeaks is a very, I say again, very controversial website and while Amazon’s reasons for withdrawing hosting support will probably only ever be explained as “being for commercial reasons”, we can have no doubt that it is related to the recent leaks of 250,000 US diplomatic cables.
Amazon have so far refused to comment on the situation and WikiLeaks are no doubt looking for alternative hosting as we speak. This could be difficult as any future host for the company will undoubtedly face denial of service attacks of the type WikiLeaks (and as a result Amazon) faced last month. These companies will probably have to look carefull at their infrastructure and if they can continue to support their existing customers with a denial of service attack taking place.
There are reports at NeoWin that WikiLeaks is moving back to its original Swedish host, though there is no official word and as of this evening the website is still offline.
