Is it time for An Apple HDTV?

Apple certainly knows how to stay on top of technology. More to the point, it knows how to bring technology to the masses. With the massive success of its products, one wonders why they haven’t gone after the TV market. Well maybe they have.

Apple TV 2 400x400 Is it time for An Apple HDTV?

Last week, according to the AppleInsider, Apple made a secret investment of almost $4 billion to make sure that a steady stream of device displays would be available for its vast collection of products. It is buying inventory. This off course assumes that there will be a continuous interest in their products. (Why shouldn’t there be, right?)

Well it didn’t take long before analysts would reach a conclusion: Maybe Apple is looking at releasing it’s own HDTV version; this in addition to providing for future iPhones, iPads, and iMacs. One analyst estimates that 220 million flat panel TVs will be sold in 2012; but of that number, about 48 percent or 106 million will be Internet-connected. For Apple it means potentially selling about 1.4 million units in 2012.

The big selling point to an Apple TV would be connected Internet, connection to iPhone, iPad, and the Mac. Not to mention that it would also mean that apps would find their way into the Apple TV environment.

But, you say, won’t this device be more expensive than other HDTV devices? Probably. Then, doesn’t that mean that consumers would bypass this device for one that might be 2,3 or 4 hundred dollars cheaper? Well you would think so, but probably not. Apple products have a certain glow about them. At this point in time they are like the Rolls-Royce of computers and technology. Any car can take you to the same destination as a Rolls-Royce, but wouldn’t you rather drive to that destination in a Rolls?

If and when the TV market opens up for Apple, it will probably bring along new features that may “wow” the consumer. Hmm. How about an Apple TV network? Maybe with George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Ron Howard in the mix.
