Blackberry’s - Why do people need them?

Found a great article on CNN about ‘How Blackberry conquered the world’.  I’m constantly amazed by the growth in the usage of these devices. Blackberry have done a great job in my view of getting key individuals to use their device so that other people jump on the bandwagon and want one as well.

This is quite clearly what has happened at my workplace where only certain employee grades are allowed to have one and laying a Blackberry on the meeting table has become some kind of status symbol.

I admit that having mobile access to your emails is amazing, but I can’t understand why people think they need a blackberry to do this! A decent smartphone can connect to Exchange servers, and at least you can make phone calls with one of these phones without feeling embarassed or without making a hole in your pocket because of the weight of your device!
