Speedup Hard Drives - 10 NTFS Performance Hacks
I’ve featured some of these tweaks previously, in my PC optimisation guides, but some of these are new to me, particularly the tweaks to improve page file performance. The 10 tweaks are:
- Disable Short Filenames
- Name Your Files Appropriately
- Use More Folders
- Use More Partitions
- Plan Your Cluster Size
- Defragment Regularly
- Reserve Space for the MFT
- Disable Last Access Time
- Turn Off (or On) the Indexing Service
- Use FAT32 for the Paging File

Here’s another technique I use to DRASTICALLY speed up my hard drive and influence windows to work like speed demon.
Edit HKEYLOCAL MACHINE - Current Control Set - Control WaitToKillServiceTimeout
Change it from 2000 to 700.
Et Voila! Suddenly your PC travels like a Quad Core! Especially at shut down

@bozza
Type ‘Regedit’ in START/RUn and navigate your way to HKEYLOCAL MACHINE/Current Control Set/Control WaitToKillServiceTimeout - it will make sense once you have the registry editor running

The above mentioned tweaks are good.I use them too.But if you want to maintain the speed of your hardisk for ever use a good disk defragment tool like Perfect disk.
