Women would like to date a man who has social value. You need not to do great deeds to prove your social value. Just a smile or a warm greeting is good enough for women to evaluate your social value. And Nightclub is the greatest testing platform to test your social value, also the most desirable place to pick up women. ‘How to Pick Up Women in Nightclubs’ is a useful guide for you to develop your social skills. It will tell you how to capture a woman’s attention, how to talk to women. It also impart the step-by-step procedures from saying a simple“hello” to more intimate matters.

So if you want to touch her or have some touches with a hidden intimacy motive, Palm reading is a good place to begin with. No need to be an expert Palm reader, just use some jargons and she’ll believe you. However, the tactic could work better if you can make a pointed comment. MB Free Palmistry is an effective tool based on the art of Palmistry. You can use it to practice your Palm reading skills or just learn some jargons. Moreover, you can know more about the woman through her interaction.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

With all the publicity of Bin Laden’s death, especially with the possible release of some of the death photos, it should come as no surprise that malware hackers are taking advantage of this phenomenon. While the US Government is still debating on whether to release the photos or not, hackers have made it a point to announce that recipients of e-mail can indeed view the photos.

But watch out.

As was reported earlier today (05-04-11) by a CBS affiliate, hackers are using the incident to spread malware. Here is what is happening, hackers and scammers are using emails and links that promise users to view those pictures; but the goal of the hackers is to try to infect your computer. Apparently enough of this is going around that the FBI says these emails could even appear to come from your friends, claiming to show either photos of bin Laden dead or a video of his death. But don’t buy into it. It’s actually a virus or malware that could steal personal information or cause your entire system to crash.

The malware is so bad that officials are also warning that Internet searches can direct you to sites with malware or virus. And the bad links are also popping up on Facebook and other social media.

Common Sense

Two things need to be clear. Until the US government releases the photos, and there is an ongoing debate about this don’t assume that someone has picked up the photos and you can view them. If they are released, you will know about it from legitimate new sources, not blogs. Check www.refdesk.com for information as it comes out.

Secondly, this is a good time to check your malware anti-virus software and make sure that it is up to date. And don’t be fooled by e-mails from friends or acquaintances. Apparently social engineering is now a big way of getting viruses into PC’s.

Primitive Disk Indexer

This program allows you to save the file structure of any disk. It will display information about the folders and files there are on a disk even if you do not have this disk. So if you have a large CD and DVD collection, you can view what files there are on any disk without even so much as having to touch that disk and insert it into the CD drive. The program comes with an Explorer-like interface. Plus disks of any type are supported: floppy disks, CDs, DVDs, hard disks, USB disks and others. The program is free and does not require installation.

Visual CD v1.7

Visual CD is a disk cataloging tool to index CDs/DVDs, floppy disks, hard disks, and even folders. The nice thing about this program is that you can explore the disk catalogs, and search files and folders; you can create MP3 playlists without actually inserting the physical disks in the drive! Upon insertion of the corresponding disk, you can open files, split files into smaller pieces, extract ZIP, RAR, and CAB archives. It is a very functional utility.

[Download Link]

Summary

These programs offer users with CD/DVD management operations, and can replace the time consuming element of finding files. They will create a catalog simply by running the program and inserting the CD/DVE or USB drive. Thereafter it will store the catalog in a library for easy access.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

We’ve been hearing about how the “Cloud” will change operations. For some businesses, it will mean a big change, as long as something like Amazon’s thunderstorm doesn’t happen to them. (Their cloud services was down for about 48 hours.) But for ordinary users, what does operating on the cloud mean?

Here are some backup programs that reside on the “Cloud.” They should help you begin to make an assessment about how important these options will be for you.

For starters let’s look at Microsoft’s SkyDrive. It will provide you with 25 GB of free online storage for sharing Microsoft Office files, docs and photos. Backing up to the Cloud is a good way to test how good the services will be. If you start with something simple, that you know works and how it works, you have the makings of understanding how more sophisticated operations can take place.

What else? Well it is a password protected system, and it is free to use. All you need in a Windows Live account (create one … its free). You can also use Microsoft Office programs on line. You don’t even need to have it installed on your computer.

[Microsoft SkyDrive]

SDExplorer

So let’s say that you’ve signed up for SkyDrive. Great. Now what? Well you want to access the storage on the Cloud. Right? Can it be easily done? Sure. Use SDExplorer, which works with SkyDrive and Explorer to make it look like your connection to the Cloud resembles a drive on your computer. Here is why you want to use it.

You make your work with SkyDrive more efficient;

You find the Web interface for SkyDrive inconvenient and complex, so you want something simpler and easier to use.

You want to assign a drive letter to your SkyDrive folders;

You want to work with your cloud storage files quickly;

You want the data on your SkyDrive account to always be at your fingertips.

[SDExplorer]

iDrive

Another Cloud backup system id iDrive. It has a basic free system that lets you backup 5Gb of data. Then there are multiple plans available for more backup needs. You can backup SQL Databases, use it with your iPhone; and it is available for Mac as well.

[iDrive]

Summary

These three Cloud Based Backup Options to Look At should provide you with the basics of Cloud operations. Nothing is more important than backup, and these backup-programs give you the incentive to take care of you data. Especially when it is free.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

Keeping your computer clock accurate is important. You can keep it current by looking at your watch and setting your computer clock to that; but realistically that is not a good solution. A better one involves synchronizing your PC clock to the atomic clock server, such as the atomic clock servers operated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States. Your current computer time is compared with the current atomic time and an adjustment is made to keep your local computer up-to-date with the exact time now.

Atomic Clock Sync

This program will access an atomic clock server to get the current time with the accuracy available and update your PC’s information. It can even be set to automatically check the time once a day to keep your PC’s time accurate forever.

Now that you have your time clock synchronized with the US atomic clock, you can look at some other time programs to enhance you system. So let’s start with Chimer.

Chimer

This program gives you a variety of choices for operating an analog like time clock. It has 18 dials, and 33 chimes, there are Ships Bells and 4 alarms. It has a variety of modes for your operation, like automatic portable mode, and a sample mode, and an introduction menu to let you get acquainted with the program. It has a realtime variable dial size with analogue hour/minute/second hands and 3 user customizable dials or hands only option.

[Download Link]

Watch Me

Sometimes you are working on a spreadsheet. Othertimes you may be working on a PowerPoint presentations but you want to keep track of the time that you spent on the system. This program is a timer program that can be used to time a number of different tasks or events together or independently of each other. You can name each timer and record information about what you are timing. This is a solution for those who need to track their time for hourly billing, or time-sheets, or to keep track of projects and tasks.

EASEUS Disk Copy

If you want to have a disk copy program that can work with any operating system, you should give Disk Copy a look at. This is a strong and viable freeware program providing sector to sector disk or partition copy regardless of the file systems or partition scheme. The sector to sector method assures you a copy identity to the original. This allows it to be used besides backup, for cloning, or upgrading your original small hard drive into a new larger drive. It can backup anything from old hard drive including deleted, lost files and inaccessible data. Cost: Free

[Download Link]

DriveImage XML

Here is a slightly different backup program. DriveImage XML lets you backup logical drives and partitions to image files. You can also browse these images, view and extract files, restore the images to the same or a different drive, and you can copy directly from drive to drive. By storing the images in XML file format, you can process them with 3rd party tools. Restore images to drives without having to reboot. Cost Free

[Download Link]

Summary

Depending on your backup requirements, these freeware examples can provide you with an easy option to keep your files safe and secure. The FBackup may be the most comprehensive program listed here, but look at Easeus if you have diskcopy needs. DriveImage lets you store your backup files in XML format.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

TuneUp is a piece of software that I’ve been longing to review for a while now. After having multiple hard drive failures and recovering my music library several times, it’s safe to say that my iTunes library was in a sorry state. A lot of the track names were wrong and most of the artists and album information was missing, not to mention the artwork.

What I’ve foolishly done in the past is go through each track (all 1000+ of them) and painstakingly look up all the correct information for them, but I normally give up after 10 excruciating minutes praying for an easier way. And I’m finally delighted to announce that there is! TuneUp is that piece of software we’ve all been praying for that will fix your iTunes woes (it’s also compatible with Windows Media Player).

After using TuneUp on my iTunes library, I decided to put it to the ultimate test and see just how bad a music collection it could sort out. So what I did was start a fresh iTunes library and imported 30 songs with no information at all. Not a single track name, artist, album or genre attached to them, they were simply labelled “track 1”, “track 2” etc..

I really didn’t think TuneUp could sort this out, I mean there was no information what so ever for it to use to try and work out what songs they were, not to mention the album artwork and artist info.

So here’s how it went:

1.The installation process was simply and straightforward, I just downloaded TuneUp from their site and followed the installation process. One thing to note is you need to make sure iTunes is closed when you’re installing it.

2. Once it was installed and ready to go I fired up itunes and the TuneUp Companion opened up in a window beside it.

Before you can actually start cleaning up your library you need to register with TuneUp (and enter in your activation code if you purchased the full version of it) which is a simple and straightforward process and then you’re ready to go!

3. In the TuneUp Companion window you will see there is 5 labels, Clean, Cover Art, Tuniverse, Concerts and Share. For now we’ll focus on the Clean and I’ll talk about the others later on.

The feature that I used first as recommended by TuneUp was the “Clean” one. This basically will go through the songs you drag into the sidebar and find all the information for them.

I dragged all 30 songs from my library into the sidebar and let it do its thing.

4. It took a minute just to process the tracks but once it got going it identified each song in seconds.

Once TuneUp starts going through your songs it sorts them into 3 categories

Matches: High confidence rating (Pretty much certain match 90%+)

Likely Matches: Medium confidence rating (80%+)

Not Found: It was unable to find matches for those tracks

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

There has been a lot of discussion about whether html5 would be incorporated into IE9 or not. In fact, some of the discussion has also been about other browsers, Chrome, Opera, Firefox and if they are leaving Microsoft behind in using HTML 5. But here the question is, just how popular is HTML5? So to answer that question, here is a short review of some of the websites that have been using HTML5.

To begin with there are many sites that are looking at show casing HTML5.

The <html>5gallery has multiple sites that they are showcasing.

This site gives a full description about what is going on in the area of HTML5 implementation.

See: <html>5gallery

Another site, at HTML5Demos gives you just that, demos of HTML5. But you must have Chrome to see the demo.

As you can see, there are are over 21 demos to look at and this should provide you with enough experience to see how the markup language will work.

Source: html5Demos

Another Website, PC Pro dissects HTML 5 by looking at several different websites.

Creative Pony One of the HTML5 Sites Reviewed

Source: The top 10 HTML5 sites dissected

One of the more complete sites is 101 Best HTML5 Sites. This offers not just a list of websites, but also tutorials for HTML5 in websites. Also businesses and personal websites that use this markup.

HTML5 & CSS3 READINESS @ http://html5readiness.com/

Source: 101 Best HTML5 Sites

Apple has also gotten into the act, but more to demonstrate the potential of HTML5, and to show users that Adobe Flash is not needed for their iPhone or iPad products.

Apple's HTML5 Demo Site

Apple is committed to using HTML5, and it even has a link to Steve Jobs explanation of why Apple’s products, especially the i* devices, no longer support Flash.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

Microsoft’s much anticipated Office 2010 has been in Beta for quite some time now, I’ve been running it myself and am so far impressed with it. Now the news has come from Redmond that they’ve finished working on it and have finalised all the code.

On April 15th they announced on their Technet blog that they have finally reached the final milestone, Release To Manufacturing (RTM). That means that Microsoft can finally beginning preparing the software for launch, burning it to discs and sorting out packaging etc…

Takeshi Numoto, Corporate Vice President of the Office division, made the announcement which covers the Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Visio 2010, and Project 2010 products.

“I am very excited to share some great news with you. Earlier today we reached the release-to-manufacturing (RTM) milestone for Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010!

RTM is the final engineering milestone of a product release and our engineering team has poured their heart and soul into reaching this milestone. It is also an appropriate time to re-emphasize our sincere gratitude to the more than 5,000 organizations and partners who have worked with us on rapid deployment and testing of the products. Since the start of our public beta in November 2009, we’ve had more than 7.5 million people download the beta version – that’s more than 3 times the number of 2007 beta downloads! The feedback that we’ve received from all these programs has shaped the set of products we’re excited about, and that I’m sure will delight our customers.”

Not only did he officially announce that they have reached the RTM but he also let us in on the dates that Microsoft Office 2010 will be available.

As usual, the first to get the new software will be Microsoft’s volume license customers. Software Assurance (SA) subscribers, these companies pay Microsoft a set amount in exchange for the right to use the latest versions of all Microsoft software on their computers. So they are generally the first to be offered the latest Microsoft products. They will get the new software on April 27th.

Non-SA volume license customers can buy the software starting on May 1st. Then the regular home users, as usual will be getting Office last. We don’t know when for certain, but it’s some time in June.

There’s more too, if you have bought and activated Office 2007 between March 5 and September 30 of this year, you are eligible for a free upgrade to Office 2010 under the terms of the Office Technology Guarantee program outlined here.

Microsoft Office 2010 Reaches RTM – Release Dates Announced is a post from Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news. - Updated daily with the latest news, tips, tweaks, social networking, wordpress tips & tweaks, windows optimization help and more..

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

For developers using Microsoft tools, the release of Visual Studio 2010 and the .NET Framework 4.0 mark the tools of the next generation. It comes together on the wealth of developer experience, plus support for the latest software and hardware platforms, and the experiences for specific application types like SQL, C#, or Visual Basic, and core architecture improvements.

The .NET Framework is a software element that can be introduced into the Microsoft Windows operating system. Its main selling point is that it provides a large set of pre-coded solutions to common program tasks and requirements, furthermore, it manages the running and execution of programs written specifically through the Framework.

The .NET Framework is used by new applications created in the Windows platform. Those pre-coded solutions in the namespaces form the framework’s class library. But it also covers a large range of programming needs including the user interface, and data access, cryptography security, web application development for browsers or SharePoint, numeric algorithms, and network communications.

The execution of the programs is in the Common Language Runtime. The CLR gives the appearance of an application virtual machine; programmers do not need to worry or be concerned about the capabilities of the specific CPU that they are programming in. The VM will simulate the runtime environment. The CLR also provides other services such as memory management, securiity mechanisms, and exception handling.

The class library and the CLR together compose the .NET Framework. The framework will make it easier to develop portable computer applications and to reduce the vulnerability of applications.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

Micrsoft’s next version of Outlook, Outlook 2010, will have social updates built right into it. This would enable the users to keep a tab on the social updates of their contacts. Whilst there have been multiple plugins for Outlook that tie Microsoft’s mail client to various social networks, this is going to be the first time for these features to be built into the application itself. This feature is called Social Connector and currently pulls information and updates from LinkedIn, Facebook and MySpace. Twitter is conspicuously missing but no conspiracy theories have been reported yet. It will just be added later in all likelihood.

There’s actually already a project like this in the market and it is one that Microsoft actually thought of buying at one point, some two years back. This is a social email project called Xobni and the funny part here is that this is also a plugin for Outlook and not an email client unto itself. With the latest social features taken into account, Outlook is thus actually starting to resemble one of its plugins.

The main purpose of such features inside an email client is to make it easier for the user. Email is as it is an old way of communicating that is just passé in today’s world of real time communication. And the mail client is pretty much a dead box of communiqués that are already old when they are downloaded to the computer. So by having an email client that is connected to the social networks, that dead old place can be made much more useful. Especially in situations when you are composing emails. If you knew your best-friend’s dog had passed away moments ago, you would’ve avoided emailing the cute doggie site you just found out about. And other such faux pas.

The bottom line here is that the web is going real time and social and communication applications like mail clients are especially burdened with keeping up with that trend. Besides, it also help people feel connected and find out relevant information. For example, hyper local news has never been the same after Twitter came on the the scene and that has actually helped out a lot of people. From avoiding traffic jams to being the first to break a major local story, social networks have completely changed the way we communicate.

Social Connector will (thankfully) be compatible with pat versions of Outlook, so those who do not want to upgrade don’t have to feel left behind. This is especially true for enterprise players — businesses are far too slow to administrate IT changes as major as browsers and mail clients. This can be really frustrating for major software vendors like Microsoft — you can’t not think of your biggest clients and yet to keep them in mind you have to slow down advancements. Sad situation really.

Currently, the beta version of the Social Connector features seems to crash prone. Several complaints from users all over the place make that part really clear. For some, Outlook actually stopped working altogether after Social Connector was installed.

The comparison between social connector and Xobni is actually hard to avoid because they do the exact same things. Whilst the logical reasoning would say that a built-in feature would render similar plugins redundant, Xobni might still have the upper hand at this point. Its has an extremely (extremely) loyal user base, it has a faster mail search function than Outlook’s own search and the dev team plans to eventually expand it to other mail clients. Xobni has so far been downloaded over 4 million times. However, the final release of Social Connector might change all of this. So we’ll just have to wait and see.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

It was the middle of January last month, just after CES had given over, when I was contacted by a certain Mr. Vinay MK about their Android based project called “Pathpartner’s Software Suite for Connected Media Devices”. Now, it is not everyday that I get to write about an Indian tech startup that is relevant in the international context. So naturally I was very excited. Hence I decided to dig in deeper.

PathPartner was started way back in 2007. The members have all known each other for over a decade and each has his own specializatioxn to contribute to the project. Vinay MK, the person who contacted me and supplied me with the information is a Co-Founder and the Director of Tecnical Marketing at PathPartner. The company is based out of Bangalore — the IT hub of India and somewhat comparable to the Silicon Valley in the US.

The key members all seem to be graduates of the top ranking places like IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Kharagpur and Jadavpur University. Their backgrounds are all technical but extremely diverse (based on the short bios sent to me), which makes me think that the company is extremely well-equipped to handle all aspects of developing a technical product.

The basic premise of their project is actually quite useful if put into use. They are targeting boring old home appliances that we use daily that have clunky old UI’s. Think of your set top box for example. The UI could be so much better and so much more useful. Same for certain ‘Videophones’ and terminals that access media but really don’t exploit the full potential that modern technology offers them.

Let’s get one thing straight — these appliance-class electronics are (mostly) meant to be always-on and they are powerful enough to run basic UI and lightweight OS. So running Android on them would not require manufacturers to invest in better components. By using an Android based system, these vendors will be able to treat their customers to a richer experience with a lot of expandability (should they want that).

Pathpartner’s Software Suite is looking to help out these vendors by giving them a ready product that is specifically designed to work with things like VoIP, Broadband services, TV services, V2IP, etc. Not only are these services supported but Android’s really great Interface makes it much easier to place calls, surf the internet or check updates through these devices.

PathPartner is currently demoing the Software Suite through an implementation called ‘MediaPhone’. They are using a OMAP-3 touch book to demonstrate the various aspects of the software. Even though the software is focussed on getting the main things done, like making a call, checking TV schedules, etc, it also also allows you to go through your photos, videos and music (should the device support such playback).

The main use of this entire project in my opinion would be to have an extra Internet connected in the house which is neither your desktop, laptop, netbook, tablet or TV. PathPartner talks about a ‘fourth screen’ but to me it can just as easily be channelled on to the TV screen and worked through an IR remote (a WiiMote-like device, so to say).

One thing that I really like about this project is that it allows you to use standard Android apps, although Vinay reminds me that the screen size and/or resolution might make some of the standard apps unsuitable for the platform.

When asked about the status of their project, they said that basic development was over and the field testing is expected to begin in March this year. They also mentioned that they are currently in talks with local vendors in India and Texas Instruments has delivered their hardware codecs so that they can be included in this Android-based platform by PathPartner. So overall, there seems to be an interest in the project from the right kind of companies — mainly OEMs.

I really like the idea of enhancing our daily lives by bettering those little digital UIs that we don’t really think about — TV, Communication terminals, etc. I look forward to seeing some interesting implementations of their project. Enjoy the video in the meantime.

Disclosure: In the interest of full disclosure, I would like to make it clear that no other member from PathPartner has contacted me in anyway other than what has already been mentioned and it has been only through emails. I have received no ‘compensation’ of any kind for this article from PathPartner or anyone representing them. This post should considered as part of my regular reporting on this blog.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

I discovered a great new windows utility this week on our sister site, Windows 7 News & Tips. One of the areas that I hoped Microsoft would improve in Windows 7 was providing better tools for keeping desktops organised. Unfortunately they didn’t, but lucking I’ve now discovered Stardock Fences. With Fences it is easy to group icons on a desktop into ‘Fences’. Multiple fences can be created and each individual fence can be moved anywhere on the desktop, keeping groups of icons together. The best way to demonstrate this is to show you my current desktop and my Fences:

As you can see I’ve created several Fences that I’ve organised around my desktop. Creating new fences is easy – all you have to do is right click on a blank area of the desktop and give your new Fence a name:

Once created, each fence can then be resized and moved. My favoutite feature is you can double-click on any area of the desktop to remove all icons, and double-click again to bring them back.

There are two versions of Fences, a free and a Premium $19.95 version – the free version will be more than adequate for most users:

To give Fences a try click here.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

The majority of the computer users suffer from a common problem worldwide. They find their PCs slowing down over prolonged use and this happens to the users who take care of their computer too. This occurs mainly because of data fragmentation. The hard disk stores data on several sections in a scattered way and when the data gets split into various sectors of the drive, the hard disk spends more time in fetching them, resulting in slower performance. Defragmentation is a remedy to this problem. While Windows has a built in defragmentation utility it is not very effective. Diskeeper has a range of applications that are useful for hard disk maintenance.

Recently it has announced the availability of Diskeeper 2010 software. According to the company this software can resist 85% fragmentation in the Windows based PCs. As a result the need for scheduled hard disk defrag becomes unnecessary. Diskeeper makes use of IntelliWrite technology and it optimizes data write and read speeds. Besides, the hard disk is spared from excessive wear and tear and its longevity improves significantly.

As of now, Diskeeper is offering the software as a trial that can be used for free for a month. The company claims that the 2010 version of Diskeeper offers enhanced and faster performance than its predecessors. The users would be able to notice performance differences while using applications like AutoCAD and Photoshop that require big disk files. However, Diskeeper 2010 requires a small memory footprint and hence the users of slower systems need not worry about reduced performance in their PCs.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

There are a lot of video editing applications in the market nowadays, targeted at various types of users. However, not all of them are easy to learn and some of the professional level applications require specialized hardware as well. If someone is looking for a video editor that has a easier learning curve yet delivers top notch result, he can opt for the CyberLink PowerDirector 8.

CyberLink has a number of media editing and playback applications which are quite popular. PowerDirector 8
differs from the rival products in speed. It makes working with video on a home PC a hassle free affair. Besides, the software is optimized to run on various kinds of hardware. As of now, the software is available in two versions-Deluxe and Ultra. The latter offers AVCHD and Blu-Ray support along with shared editing features and has a price tag of $99.95. The Deluxe version can be purchased at a price of $69.

The application starts up faster and on a PC with multi core CPUs it will not take more than 10 seconds to launch. In comparison applications like Premiere Elements 8 and Pinnacle 14 take twice the time. The main interface of the PowerDirector 8 is divided into 3 segments. A content browser sits at the left corner of the interface and a preview pane accompanist it at right side. The time-line window is placed at the bottom part of the interface. There are four basic modes using which a user can capture video footage, edit it, make the final movie and burn it on a disc. The footage can be obtained from a webcam, DV camcorder, TV etc.

The top left section of the interface holds a lot of icons that can be used to view recorded media or preview transition effects. To get the most out of the software a user needs a PC or laptop that supports higher resolutions. Otherwise most of its screen icons remain hidden by default. The video preview pane in PowerDirector shows smooth video and edges ahead of both Pinnacle Studio 14 and Premiere Elements 8. If the user imports HD videos the application offers the option of making shadow files to boost processing speed. It does the processing in the background so that the user can continue with his work without facing any difficulties as such.

PowerDirector 8 sports a new feature named TrueTheater HD that up converts standard definition footage to HD. However, it can not improve the quality of inferior quality video. Though PowerDirector 8 does not have the Smart Fix tools offered by Premiere Elements, its advanced color control and effects go a long way in improving the quality of the end product. The users can export the edited footage to a plethora of formats including MPEG-2, AVI, H.264, WMV, RM. Sharing videos with YouTube is also possible. The application needs to improve in adding title and text effects to the footage, an area where Premiere Elements excels. However, its unbeatable speed and advanced optimization features make it an ideal deal for the power users who need a video editing tool with solid performance.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

The MAC OS installed with Apple Macintosh computers is a robust and Popular OS and it has enjoyed uninterrupted popularity among the Mac users since its inception. However, those who want to get a feel of Windows on their Macs often opt for virtualization software. It is typical for those users who migrate to Macintosh from Windows. A number of virtualization software is available to cater to their needs. Recently, Parallels launched its revamped virtualization software named Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac. This is a powerful and feature rich virtualization software that allows the Mac users to run Linux, Windows and other OSes on Intel CPU based Macintosh machines.

The good thing about the software is that it is compatible with both Leopard and its successor Snow Leopard. The price of the version 5 has been set at $80 whereas an upgrade would cost a person $50. The company claims that the new version has been designed from ground up and its 70 new features will make running Windows on Mac much faster and effortless.

Those who love the sleek and glossy interface of Windows 7 and Vista will like this software as well. It provides native support for the Aero visual theme used in both the operating systems. Another notable improvement is the USB data transfer speed under Windows. An optional mode named MacLook is offered in the application that gives Windows a similar appearance to Mac OS X. Apart from that, version 5 of Parallels Desktop provides support for swipe and pinch gestures in a number of applications. Multi monitor view has also been improved significantly.

Another important inclusion in the new version is seamless OpenGL 2.1 acceleration, both for Linux and Windows. This translates into better multimedia and gaming performance. Its support for Smart cards under Windows is a boon for the business users who need to use the security standard. Parallels has also bundled a number of useful Windows software with the Desktop 5 virtualization software. The users will like the 1 year subscription to a customized version of Kaspersky Internet security. For enhanced data recovery and backup, a copy of Acronis True Image and Acronis Disk Director is also included with the software.

As of now, the software is available in 4 more languages apart from English. However, the company said that versions in Asian languages will be launched in near future. Those who want to use this software can check at the Apple Store, Amazon.com or the Parallel’s website. The users of the earlier version can avail a free upgrade but the date of purchase must be October 1 onwards.

There is a solution from Apple that also allows the Mac users to run Windows on their machines. It is known as Boot camp. But it needs the user to restart the Macintosh and boot into Windows. But the Parallels CEO said that the latest version of the software zooms past boot camp in terms of speed and performance. Under $100 the software is a compelling buy for the enthusiast Mac users.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

Dictionary software has saved countless computer users much valuable time. Simply clicking on the word to reveal its meaning is so much more convenient than turning over all those pages of an actual dictionary.

While the dictionary software have amazingly facilitated us, there are categories amongst these software: average, good, and best. The dictionary software we’re going to explore today is definitely in the ‘best’ category.

Say hello to WordWeb.

Having a download size of just ~7 MB, you can have WordWeb up and running in no time.

During the setup, you’re asked to select a version of the English language:

Simply by right-clicking on a word while holding down the control key, you can have the meaning of the word pop up in a WordWeb window. In the window, apart from looking up the meaning, you can have WordWeb pronounce the word, show its synonyms, see what words are related by checking out the nearby words, and when possible, even see antonyms:

WordWeb is absolutely free, with one unusual condition: “WordWeb free version may be used indefinitely only by people who take at most two commercial flights (not more than one return flight) in any 12 month period.People who fly more than this need to purchase the Pro version if they wish to continue to use it after a 30-day trial period.”

While at first, it seemed silly, I visited WordWeb’s website to discover quite a logical reasoning: “Global greenhouse gas emissions are currently around 5 tonnes of carbon dioxide per person per year, and probably need to be reduced by at least 80% have a good chance of avoiding dangerous warming. Most computer users are responsible for far more emissions than is sustainable. For example two short-medium distance return flights can be equivalent to over 1 tonne of emissions: more than an average person can safely emit over an entire year.”

The user can of course by pass this condition by lying, but it does show WordWeb’s efforts towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In conclusion, WordWeb offers unflawed functionality and is in the top tier of dictionary software!

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

Imagine that: a tiny Windows application that works out of the box Yep, that’s right. No config hassles. No arcane settings. And it does exactly what it’s told to do.

Dropbox is a file synchronization tool that masquerades as a folder on your computer. Simply setup the client on as many lappies as you desire, and any changes you execute to the contents of the Dropbox location are automatically propagated to all connected PCs to the same Dropbox account. Take note, there’s more to DropBox than just file synchronization—this amazing software synchronizes program files, configuration data and even databases between multiple copies of that same program on different laptops you own.

Dropbox warped from hyperspace sometime 2008 to wow us with its amazingly intuitive approach to online storage. The program spawns a unique folder that behaves just like a folder on your hard disc. You can drag, drop, copy, paste, cut and obliterate up to 4GB worth of files to the cloud. Need more space? For$100 a year you get 50GB.

Regardless of whether you pay or not, the service gives you the goods and syncs up your precious data in the background. The GUI lets you follow your file transfer history and obtain any file even from Timbuktu, as well as revive any files that may have been accidentally deleted. The best part is that can even create shared folders to pass files along to your friends and loved once.

Know what’s the best part? There aren’t any ads. I’m in love!

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

If you have given DVD burning software a try, by now you must have learned that the best software always comes with a price tag attached. You must have gone through tones of freeware available on the internet but found them just not up to the task i.e. lacking at least a couple of features which the perfect DVD burner should have.

For people like you, there is some much deserved good news. Your search for the perfect DVD burner is now over, if you move fast. WinX DVD Author, an amazing DVD burner, is being offered for absolutely free!

The software usually comes with a price of US$ ~30 but if you download it by October 31st, you can enjoy the burner for absolutely nothing! So let us have a deeper look into this amazing burner.

The setup file to be downloaded is a mere 10 MB large. Once you have it installed and running, here is how it looks like:

Notice how straightforward the controls are. The three options on the right give you the ability to convert video files of various formats into VOB file, compile the VOB files onto a DVD disk, or convert your video files and burn them into a DVD player compatible DVD in a single move. If you do not have a blank DVD at hand, for the time being you can simply convert your video files into VOB, and save the VOB to be burned later.

The options can be accessed by clicking on the button located at the bottom left:

The user can also use portions of a video file to be converted by specifying the start and stop time to be converted. By doing so, and using WinX DVD Author’s feature of batch video converting (converting simultaneous videos) you can have a resultant VOB / DVD video which only contains the best parts of the original videos!

While forming a DVD disc which is compatible on DVD players, you can also form customized menus with your own background pictures and menu fields. This is the perfect way to your DVDs a personal touch.

The user can adjust the image ratio (so you the resultant DVD can be played either on widescreen or standard TV), video format (not only can you burn in the American format, NTSC, but also the overseas supported format, PAL), and the DVD type (you can even burn on DVDs with capacities of 8200MB). You can also set the time for the DVD menus.

The video formats this amazing burner supports include (amongst others) AVI, ASF, MPEG1, MPEG2, MP4, MOV, RM, RMVB, XIVD, DVIX, H264, OGG, QT, and FLV. Similarly, some of the disc formats supported are DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, DVD DL+R, and DVD DL+/-RW.

The simple interface will surely put the novice users at ease. If you are looking for a better DVD burner then the one you are using, WinX DVD Author is the only answer. But remember, October 31st is the final date: so hurry!

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

We recommend! Click Here to Turbo Charge your PC and internet

I’ve been using Windows 7 for many months now and I think it’s a great OS that works well on nearly any PC. However, you can still have more speed…..If you want to make your Windows 7 PC run even faster or if you want to tweak Windows 7 then you could follow my 10 Simple Ways To Speedup Windows 7, or an even easier way is to use one of these 7 Free Tweakers For Windows 7, which make it easy for even novice users to speedup Windows 7.

Windows 7 Manager

Windows 7 Manager is my favourite Windows 7 tweaker as it just does so much. Using the simple wizard and helpful guide, you can very quickly optimize, tweak, secure and cleanup Windows 7. It’s free for 15 days, which should be enough for most users.

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

Have you ordered Windows 7 yet? I’ve been using it on my main machines now for ten months and I’d never go back to Vista. One of the best improvements in Windows 7 is the taskbar, which allows you to access open applications and documents quickly.

7stacks is a great addon for Windows 7 that adds even more functionality to the Windows 7 Taskbar and adds the ability to add ‘stacks’ of icons to the Windows 7 Taskbar, allowing you to further tidy up the clutter on your machine. One neat way to use 7Stacks is to browse the files in a folder quickly. With 7stacks, just create a stack to that document’s folder, and open that document in a couple of clicks.

Key Features:

In 7 and Vista, 7stacks uses Aero, making the stacks look like part of Windows itself.

Browse subfolders within a stack, just like in OS X Snow Leopard.

3 different styles of stacks: Normal, Grid, and Menu

Normal displays a stack of icons vertically, with a text description next to it.

Grid displays a “squarish” grid of icons only; useful when displaying a large number of items like document folders.

Menu displays a cascading menu of items, with a very small icon and a name next to it. Hover over subfolders to browse inside those folders.

In Windows 7, create a new stack by right-clicking on any stack and selecting “Create New Stack” from the JumpList entry. In Menu mode, 7stacks doesn’t even need to be in a toolbar. You can use it right from your desktop, or any other folder.

Pin up to 10 different stacks on the Windows 7 taskbar

Posted on Connected Internet - tech, mobile and gaming news.

have you ever wanted to be able to access your files from any device, regardless of where you are or how much storage or processing power that device has? You are probably using cloud services already without realising it – webmail is a classic example.

For a few months now I’ve been using SugarSync to sync and backup all the files on my PCs, as well as allowing me to access them remotely. However, to view many files with SugarSync you need to have the necessary applications installed so that files can be stored.

Gladinet who have purchased this review offer a potential solution to this problem. Gladinet’s Cloud Desktop program allows users to not only store documents and files in the cloud, but to also use applications stored in the cloud to open the files i.e you don’t need to have a spreadsheet program installed on your PC to be able to open a spreadsheet stored in your Gladinet Cloud Storage. Currently file formats supported by Google Apps are supported, although Zoho Suite integration is promised in the future.

Main features of Gladinet Cloud Desktop:

Backup Google Docs™ to Local and/or Cloud Storage

Map Cloud Storage As a Virtual Drive

Incremental Backup to One or More Cloud Storage Service

Manage Tasks with a Versatile and Powerful Task Manager

Enjoy Enterprise Level Scalability for Large Transfers

Transfer Files 10x Faster with Advanced Acceleration Technology

Protect your online credentials with Profile Encryption

Gladinet Cloud File Type Association

Open local file using cloud applications such as Google Docs

Missing in the list of features is how much online storage Gladinet provide – for instance with SugarSync I get 250GB for $250/pa. I searched for a while and couldn’t find the answer and then it dawned on me that Gladinet doesn’t offer any online storage in its pricing, instead letting customers choose their own online backup service provider:

Gladinet let’s you decide where to backup your data. Other online service providers want to lock you into their backend. With Gladinet, you can use Amazon S3, EMC Atmos Online, Box.net and many others. The current list of supported providers is available in the Gladinet Cloud Storage Directory. This list is continually growing as plugins are added by Gladinet or 3rd party users of the Gladinet SDK.

At first glance this may seem ok particularly as Gladinet include built-in support, but using these services can significantly drive up costs. Gladinet itself may only cost only $39.99, but if I were to buy 250GB of storage from Amazon S3 it would cost me $540/pa ($450 in the US) alone. On top of this Amazon charge for data transfer in ($0.1/GB) and out at $0.17/GB so if I wanted to play a 10 track (5MB track size average) music album it would cost me $8.5 to listen to the album.

For this reason, if you need online backup storage you should always go with a provider like Sugarsync who offer 2GB of storage for free, that are running their own online backup service. Services that rely on 3rd party providers like Amazon S3 are just too expensive to use.

Not many people know that you can watch free football matches online, including Barclays Premiership and Champions League games, for free. You can even watch football matches for free that aren’t broadcast in your home country, because they may be being broadcast live somewhere else in the world.

Sopcast has been one of the leading clients for watching online games for a while, and many guides have been produced giving help on setting up Sopcast to watch free Champions League Football Online and free Premiership Football Online. Sopcast’s video quality has been steadily improving over the years, and the latest Sopcast 3.2.4 version even includes support for H.264 file formats, enchanced channel recording features and better data transfering performance.

Downloading Sopcast can be difficult as the site has some of the worst hosting I’ve ever seen. Luckily Tony, has uploaded the latest sopcast version to a filehosting site.
