SUMo: Free Software Update Manager

I can’t remember the name of the service, but one of my favourite apps in the past was an update manager that CNET used to offer back in 1998 when I first started using the internet. I think CNET removed the app as they had concerns that they might be inadvertently encouraging users [...]

I’ve Really Lost Faith In The Digg Community Now

Some of the idiots who stalk Digg and leave inane comments have gone too far now in my view.  Spencer H. Kim, father of James Kim who tragically died last year, posted a story in the Washington Post laying out some criticisms of the way the search was conducted for his son and family.
The story [...]

James Kim’s Body Found

I was very sad to return home tonight and learn that they discovered James Kim’s body today, 11 days after he went missing with his wife and two daughters.
James Kim was a senior editor covering digital audio who also co-hosted a weekly video podcast for the Crave gadgets blog. The story of his disappearance [...]

The Ten Biggest Dot Com Flops

CNET have compiled a list of the top 10 .com flops. Seeing this list brought back a lot of memories of crazy valuations and seeing paper fortunes disappear (sob!).
At number 1 we have webvan.com who raised and squandered $375m within 18 months, which is pretty good going when you think about it.
Even Mike Tyson [...]

Skype Has Revenues Of $6-10 Billion??

CNET reports that some analysts think that Skype has up to $6-10 Billion in revenues.
I think this is absolute nonsense. Skype has been downloaded around 140m times so far. Even if I’m being really bullish and assume that 1% use SkypeOut for all their calls (probably still too high) and that each user [...]

Moblie music downloads to surpass iTunes?

Fantastic article on CNet featuring some great quotes from music industry sources. It seems that Apple’s intransigence over pricing and DRM is annoying a lot of industry sources and they would love to get more control over the industry. Problem is, iTunes has 70% of the PC market so it appears that the [...]
