Virus Warning! Don't Open Emails Entitled "You've received a greeting from a family member!"
I just received an email entitled “You’ve received a greeting from a family member!” which contained a virus. I was suspicious from the outset, but given that it is almost Christmas I opened it with my virus scanner running at maximum, just in case it was from a friend.
I’m just putting a warning out [...]
Xbox360 Will Never Support DivX According to Major Nelson
Major Nelson of Xbox Live fame, who is also a Microsoft employee, recently stated that the Xbox360 will never support DivX. And the reason why? Because DivX is primarily used to “backup” DVDs and Microsoft don’t want to get involved in this contentious area.
If this is the official view from Microsoft it’s complete [...]

He argues that a software firewall gives a false sense of security, as trojans and worms can still exploit other vulnerabilities.
Although, [...]

TWI has written an interesting piece about Anti-Spyware service providers such as ZoneLabs being sued by ‘legitimate’ companies for treating their programs and services as spyware. TWI asks what I think is a very interesting question:
If a business model is based on hiding pieces of software in users’ computers, to delivers advertisements and track [...]
Gmail Adds Anti-Virus Tool….Not In The UK Though
fosfor gadgets reports that in the US Gmail has added an anti-virus scanner. Unfortunately this isn't available in the UK, because I think the UK service is running on a different server because of the all troubles surrounding the gmail.co.uk domain.
Hopefully the UK will catchup soon.
SETI@home Hacked By Aliens!
Well it hasn’t happened yet, but The Guardian Unlimited reports that particle physicist Richard Carrigan has warned that ET and his buddies could use SETI@home to infect Earth’s computers with malicious code.
If ET is out there I’m sure he’s got better things to do with his time like getting his spaceship kitted out with [...]
Browse The Net Freely At Work And At School - Use A Proxy
The corporate firewall at my workplace is very draconian. I remember frantically trying to find a Sony logo before I had to give a presentation to Sony on network gaming, but having to give up as all Sony sites were blocked because they had links to Sony Playstations.
I used to get around this by [...]
