Help: VoIP services

Are there any VoIP services available in the UK other than Vonage that let you use a standard phone handset? I don’t want to sign up to Vonage because I don’t want to pay the £9.99pm - basically I just want a second line. Thanks in advance for any help.

Will device manufacturers support Skype if it remains proprietary?

I found an interesting post on ‘Communications’ where Brough Turner states that Skype’s proprietary codecs won’t lock users into using only Skype, as unlike an operating system, users can easily download clients for other messaging networks.
